Bekannt ist die Herstellung von Wassergas aus Kohle oder Koks durch abwechselnde ? Aufblasen einer Brennstoffsäule und Durchleiten von Wasserdampf. Das beim Aufblasen entstehende sogenannte Heissblasegas wird gewöhnlich unausgenutzt ins Freie entlassen ; bei dem Durchleiten von Dampf entsteht das Wassergas. Ferner ist vorgeschlagen worden,'Rohkohle od. dgl. in einer Retorte zu entgasen und den hiebei entfallenden Koks oder Halbkoks in Wassergaserzeugern zu verwenden. In diesem Falle kann das Heizmittel (Wärmeüberträger) aus Wassergas bestehen, dessen fühlbare Wärme ausgenutzt wird, indem einebeliebige Mengevom Wassezgaserzeugerabezogen und unverbrannt durch die Retorte geschickt wird, um das in der Retorte zu behandelnde kohlenstoffhaltige Material zu entgasen.
Als Ergebnis dieses Verfahrens wird eine Gasmischung erzielt, die aus mit Destillationsgas angereichertem Wassergas besteht.
