Austrian PATENT LETTERING? 1 0516. Device for projecting opaque objects.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for projecting opaque objects, in which the apparatus generally used for projecting transparent objects can be used without substantial modification. According to the previously known methods for projecting opaque objects, a not insignificant conversion of the usual projection apparatus was necessary, so that such apparatus, apart from a rather complex construction, were relatively very expensive, whereby the disadvantage remained that the lens got a different direction and the transmission of the projection took place by means of a correspondingly placed mirror in front of the lens.

The purpose of the present invention is to illuminate and image an opaque object by switching on a new mirror apparatus while maintaining the usual position of the projection lens and condenser, as is necessary for the projection of transparent objects.

Theoretically, this would be possible in a simple manner by throwing the light rays coming from the light source 1 through an inclined mirror 2,3 onto the opaque object 4,5, from where the light rays through the mirror 6 arranged under 450 the lens 7 go. In practice, however, this is not possible because, on the one hand, the mirror 2, 3 would have to be in such a position in the necessary inclined position that it is partly in the condenser and partly in the path of the rays going from the object 4, 5 to the mirror 6 protrudes and covers the latter, as can be clearly seen from the drawing.

This inconvenience is now to be eliminated by the present invention in the simplest way in that, instead of a large mirror, a number of smaller mirrors 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 u. s. w. resp. totally reflective prisms z. B. arranged of trapezoidal shape. The construction of the location thereof is found in the following manner.

If 2, 3 is the theoretical mirror that would throw all rays coming from the condenser onto the object 4, 5 to be imaged at the required angle, then the ray 1, 14 running in the optical axis would be reflected to 15.

If you now draw two lines through 2 and 3 parallel to lines 1, 14 and 14, 15, the result is the rhombus 2, 16, 3, 17, the long diagonal of which is the theoretically correct mirror 1, 2, 3, while 16, 17 the short diagonal that forms the bisecting line of 2, 3. A number of smaller mirrors are now perpendicular to this short diagonal and parallel to the long diagonal. B. 6, arranged at the same distance from each other, which protrude equally far beyond the diagonal on both sides, the total surface of this small mirror corresponds to the surface of the theoretical mirror 2,3.

These small mirrors now reflect all the light rays coming from the condenser in the manner shown in the drawing onto the opaque object 4, 5, but take up a much smaller space and can no longer damage the rays going from the object to the mirror 6. Instead of mirrors 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 18 and so on. w. As mentioned above, appropriately shaped, totally reflective prisms, which are best arranged close together, can also be used. Due to a low convergence of the mirror planes
