Bisher ist für Zündzweeke das Cer mit solchen Metallen oder Metalloiden legiert verwendet worden ; welche infolge des hohen, ungefähr 1800 C betragenden Schmelzpunktes der Verbrennungsprodukte durch einfaches Schaben oder Reiben nur gesonderte Spänchen in glühendem Zustande ergeben ; diese

aber zur unmittelbaren Entzündung von Papier, Baumwolle, Tabak od. dgl. verwendet werden.
Vorliegende Erfindung bezweckt, eine Legierung zu schaffen, die durch den gleichen Schab-oder Reibvorgang die unmittelbare Entzündung der genannten Körper (Papier, Baumwolle, Tabak od. dgl.) gestattet, und besteht darin, dass in einer an sich bekannten Cer-Silizium-Legierung, in der das Silizium teilweise durch Bor ersetzt sein kann, ein bis etwa 10% betragender Zusatz von Kalium, Natrium oder Blei, einzeln oder kombiniert, enthalten ist, wobei diese Zusätze teilweise durch Kalzium ersetzt sein können, zum Zwecke, beim Reiben oder Schaben glühendflüssige, glasartige Tröpfchen zu erzielen.
Der Zusatz von Blei zu pyrophoren Cerlegierungen ist an sich bekannt.
Als besonders wirksamer Zusatz nach der Erfindung hat sich die Mischung von Blei, Silizium bzw. von Kalzium und Kalium bewährt, die Cer-Blei-Glaströpf chen von grosser Zündkraft ergeben.
Von diesen Legierungen haben sich wieder jene Zusammensetzungen als besonders wirksam erwiesen, welche bei der mechanischen Bearbeitung, z. B. durch Schaben oder Reiben, nach dem Verbrennen ein leichtflüssiges Bleiglas der Zusammensetzung von ungefähr 75-90% Ceroxyd und ungefähr 25-10% Bleisilikat ergeben.
