EMI1.1

EMI1.1
Catalysts such as those used in the combination of ethylene or ethylene-containing gases with dry hydrogen chloride for the purpose of preparing ethyl chloride (see e.g. Ber. 57, p. 95; Austrian patents No. 103 496 and No. 103 497) Depending on the reaction conditions used, they become ineffective more or less quickly because they are covered with a shell of condensation products of ethylene of unknown composition, which is usually externally recognizable by a change in color or gloss.
The subject of the present invention now forms a further embodiment of the method of the parent patent no. 103497, which is intended. to regenerate the gradually ineffective catalysts used in this process in a simple manner. This is because it has been found that such catalysts, which have gradually become ineffective or exhausted, can thereby be regenerated quickly and easily. if you at elevated temperature, z. B. between 100 and 800, treated with chlorine.
For example, a catalyst made of iron chloride, aluminum chloride or aluminum chloride-ethylene double compound, which has been used up to the point of being completely ineffective, can be completely refreshed again for the purpose of producing ethyl chloride by treatment with chlorine at 1000.
