Das Verfahren beruht auf der Beobachtung, dass es beim Erhitzen derartiger, zweckmässig zerkleinerter Legierungen mit Schwefel möglich ist, daraus Antimon metallisch zu gewinnen und nur die

äquivalent wählt. Es werden hiebei überraschenderweise nur die anderen Metalle an Schwefel gebunden während das Antimon nicht mit dem Schwefel in Verbindung tritt, sondern im Zustande des freien Metalls verbleibt, so dass eine praktisch quantitative Trennung möglich ist.
Beispiel : Eine Legierung, die etwa 40% Zinn, 40%'Kupfer, 0% Blei und 10% Antimon ent- hält, wird zerkleinert und mit einer den anwesenden Mengen von Zinn. Blei und Kupfer äquivalenten Menge Schwefel gemischt. Das Gemisch wird erhitzt und geht dabei in flüssigen Zustand über. wobei Zinn, Blei und Kupfer in ihre Sulfide übergeführt werden, während das gesamte Antimon in metallischem Zustande verbleibt. Es werden etwa 9-5% Antimon in einer Reinheit von etwa 92 u zurückgewonnen.
Die Erhitzung kann in irgendeinem geeigneten Ofen erfolgen, der mit einer Abstichüffnung versehen ist. durch die man das geschmolzene Antimon abzieht, während die Sulfide im Ofen zurückbleiben.
Das gewonnene Antimon kann von den geringfügigen darin enthaltenen Verunreinigungen, insbesondere gelösten Anteilen der Schwefelverbindungen, in bekannter Weise befreit werden. Aus den Sulfiden werden Zinn, Blei und Kupfer in bekannter Weise gewonnen.
