Process for the production of rubber with a large number of microscopic pores.
In the parent patent no. 106216 it is mentioned that instead of the immediate conversion into a gall, the rubber milk can also initially solidify in the form of a pulp, which turns into a homogeneous, coherent gel after a while. Through this work

or to roll out which shaped pieces later take on a gelatinous consistency and are finally converted into highly porous solid rubber by luminous vulcanization. When choosing the agglutinating agent, it is important that it not only converts the rubber milk into pulp form, but also leaves it in this state for a long time so that there is enough time for shaping.
As experiments have shown, the manganese salts, especially manganese sulphate, satisfy this condition to a particularly high degree. In order to prevent the manganese compounds from having a damaging effect on the finished rubber, they are removed again before or after vulcanization by washing with suitable agents. It is not new that when the known coagulants are added in small amounts, a gradual E! Increase in the viscosity of the rubber milk until the pulp occurs, but the transition of the pulp into the form of a solid, coherent jelly was never observed and this jelly was not vulcanized while avoiding the release of water.
Example: 100 cm3 of rubber milk are mixed with 15 g of sulfur flowers and 40 cm of a 10% manganese sulphate solution are added while stirring; this creates a thick paste which is spread into the molds. After one to two hours or a shorter time if heated, the pulp is transformed into a solid, homogeneous jelly, which is then further treated according to the method of the parent patent. Immediately before vulcanization or afterwards, the rubber body is thoroughly leached with warm dilute sulfuric acid and then washed out with water.
