 EMI2.6

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Result display device for calculating machines.

The previously known ten switching devices for calculating machines still have many disadvantages. So they absorb z. B. part of the path of the drive organs and often only act over a limited number of positions. They also make the machine more difficult to run by causing resistance, jolts and knocks, so that the drive speed may only be limited. Furthermore, some of these devices do not necessarily work, only work in one direction of rotation and require precise regulation (protection against overshooting) of the counter wheels, especially in the "9" and "0" positions.

In order to avoid these disadvantages, it has already been proposed to have the tens transmission done by ordinary gear wheels according to the translation of the minute hand of a clock to the hour hand and thereby each value point can be driven both directly and simultaneously (for the purpose of tens transmission) from the previous value point by switching on differential gears do.

The disadvantage of such an arrangement, however, is that the result display members, since they are continuously and evenly driven by the tens transmission, can assume any intermediate position. If z. B. five units are added at the lowest value point,
 EMI1.1
denotes forward and is therefore in the middle between 0 and 1. The result cannot be replaced by n digits lying in a straight line, but its digits must be estimated by estimating their position in relation to an index or the like, if necessary by comparing the next lower value places can be determined, an impossible procedure with modern calculating machines and especially with those with writing devices.

The purpose of the present invention is to enable a direct readability of the result by means of digits lying in a straight line when using the above-mentioned tens transmission through ordinary gear wheels.

According to the present invention, the wheels of the counter are now left in their intermediate position using only one gear for each position during the rehening process, but to read the number contained in the counter, the individual positions can be coupled with special display elements and then set to zero one after the other, see above that this number can be seen or removed from normal, straight-line digits.

The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, in which FIG. 1 is a plan view (partially in section) on an enlarged scale of the device, FIG. 2 shows the device in side view installed in a calculating machine and FIG. 3 shows the device in a of Fig. 2 different working position.

The counter equipped with the subject of the invention contains two axes 1 and 2. On

In the interior of the gears 3, gears 6 are arranged, which are connected to a sleeve 7 with a large gear 8. A gear 9 mounted on the bush 7 has a pin 1'0 which serves as a pivot for a planetary gear H engaging in the teeth 4 and 6. The gear wheel 9

connected to a gear 14, which is in engagement with the gear 8 of the subsequent higher position. A six-toothed star wheel 25 is also fixedly arranged on the sleeve M.

Another axis 16 carries segments 17 which, when this axis is rotated, engage in the recesses (tooth gaps) of the star wheels 15 and can thereby bring them into their normal position (FIG. 3). These segments are offset from one another on the axis in such a way that when the axis is rotated in the direction of the arrow (FIG. 3), they do not reach the area of the star wheels 15 at the same time, but rather in the row starting at the lowest point.

There are racks below the wheels described. M guided straight in 19; Each of these constantly meshes with a gear 20 of a number roller 21. Furthermore, a gear rack 22 is articulated at 23 on each gear rack 18, which can be pivoted around the pivot point 26 by a bracket 25 with a roller 24 in and out of the area of the gear wheels 3. This is done by means of a linkage 33, which is only indicated schematically. 35, 56 by a disk 40 fixed on the axis 16, in
 EMI2.2

The drive of the result work during the arithmetic operation takes place on the wheels 3, u. 2 by a gear 38 'which meshes with teeth 5 and which engages in a known manner from a setting wheel 64 which engages with the cone rotated by crank 67 and bevel gears 65, 66.

However, the racks 18 could also be adjusted directly in the manner known from adding machines by means of buttons and inclined surfaces.

The transmission ratio of the gear transmission described is such that when the gear 5 of a value digit is rotated by ten teeth, the star wheel 15 of the same value digit is rotated by one tooth, but the star wheel 15 of the next higher digit is rotated by the tenth part of a tooth, the following by the hundredth part, etc.

Assuming that all star wheels 15 are in the normal position according to FIG. 3, and the number 9 is added to the lowest point, i.e. gear 3. of this value point is rotated by nine teeth in the direction of the arrow (FIG. 2), then it rotates corresponding star wheel 15 by nine tenths of its division, the following by nine hundredths, etc. (In practice, because of the dead gear, the
 EMI2.3
has taken place in the set sense; but this fact has no adverse effect.)
If the reading of the counter is to be read after adding the number 9, then the axis 16 must be turned in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 3).

As a result, the rods 36, 35, 33 and the bracket 25, the toothed racks 22 are primarily engaged in the toothed wheels 5 by the disk 40 (FIG. 3). whereupon the first segment 17 enters the area of the first star wheel 15, the tooth tip of which is detected and the wheel returns to the normal position, i.e. it rotates back by nine tenths of a division. The wheels 6 and 8 at the first position of the counter are permanently held, so the wheel 3 has to turn back nine teeth again, whereby it adjusts the racks 18, 22 and thus the digit roller 21 by the corresponding amount, the previous status of the The first digit of the counter can be read from this.

By turning the first star wheel 15 back by nine tenths of a division, the second star wheel 15 is reset again by nine hundredths of a division. If the second segment 17 enters the area of the second star wheel 15, it already finds the same again in its normal position, so that it can pass freely without adjusting gear 3, racks 18, 22 and digit roller 21
 EMI2.4
rotated by a total of ten teeth, the first star wheel 15 moves ten tenths of a division, that is, a whole division further, whereby it again reaches the normal position; the second star wheel 15 is adjusted by a tenth of a division.

If the axis 16 is now rotated in order to get the result, the first segment 17 finds the first star wheel 15 already in the normal position, the number roller 21 of the first value place remains at "0"; on the other hand, segment 17 of the second value place finds its star wheel 15 adjusted by a tenth of a division, so turns it back by this amount and thus adjusts the
 EMI2.5
so that the addition result "10" can be read off the two dials.

If the number "12" is added to 9, the gear wheel 3 of the first value digit is rotated by 9 + 2 = 11 teeth, and the gear wheel 3 of the second value digit is rotated by one tooth, the first star wheel 15 rotates by eleven tenths of a division , that is, by a tenth of a division beyond the second normal position; the second star wheel 15 becomes eleven hundredths of a division from the first and of gear 5 of its value place

the first digit roll is set to 1, the second digit roll to 2, which corresponds to the desired addition result # 21 ".

This process can be demonstrated for any number with any number of digits, u. between forwards and backwards rotation of the wheels, i.e. with addition and subtraction.

The most important phenomenon here is that when the counter reading is retrieved (result) by turning the steering wheel of the lowest value digit back to its normal position, the intermediate position of the next star wheel is canceled, so that the relevant segment of this star wheel can only find ten different specific positions .

The retrieval of the result by turning the axis 16 is only necessary at the end of the arithmetic operation, during which the transfer of the tens is, so to speak, imperceptible, i.e. H. you

 will.

The transmission of the rotation of the wheels. on the result display members 21 can be done by other means than the described racks, z. B. through direct engagement of the gears. 3 and 20, or the result display member could be mounted conaxially to the gearwheel 3 and coupled to it by a pawl.

The result display elements could also be actuated by a wheel other than the gear wheel 3.

The zero position of the wheels determining the result (in the exemplary embodiment described. M) can also be carried out by other means than the described segments 17, e.g. B. by springs,
