Casting mold for aluminothermic welds.
For aluminobaric welds, molds are used that are manufactured by stamping a molding box over a model with sand, or molds are used that are designed as chill molds and are made entirely of MetaH and, if necessary, coated with refractory mass. The molds made of sand can only be used once and have to be made anew each time with a lot of work, while permanent molds made of metal have the disadvantage that they consume a considerable part of the heat used to weld the workpieces, especially in those places where the The surface and the mass of the mold is large in comparison with the workpiece part to be welded.
The subject matter of the invention is a mold which is designed partly as a permanent mold and partly as a molding box and makes it possible to mold those places where the effect of the permanent mold is unfavorable from sand or the like.
In so-called aluminothermic combined welding, in which, for example, when welding railway rails, the foot and web of the rails are mixed by the highly heated iron separated from the aluminotbermic mass, while the rail head is only heated and butt welded by the slag that is produced at the same time, it is advantageous to all The parts of the mold that come into contact with the aluminogenetic iron should be stamped out with sand, while all other parts should be designed as a mold.
If molds made in this way are used for welding, in which the workpiece and mold are preheated, there is no need to dry the mold beforehand, as the small amount of sand means that drying is completely adequate during preheating and the mold parts are so strong are heated so that due to the lower temperature gradient between the mold wall and the welding mass, a significantly lower heat loss occurs.
In the accompanying drawing, FIGS. 1-3 show an embodiment for butt welding a railroad track, while FIGS. 4-5 show a further embodiment especially for the so-called parallel construction. u.
