Description

Bring material (getter) for electric incandescent lamps and similar glass vessels.

In order to improve the service life of electric incandescent lamps and similar glass vessels, it is customary to introduce substances, so-called getters, into them, which either prevent the bell from blackening or bind gas residues, in particular moisture residues or water vapor.

The invention is based on the knowledge that a compound of phosphoric anhydride (phosphorus pentoxide) with the oxide of any other metalloid can be used with good success as an introducer. Favorable results can be achieved by using boron phosphate (BP04). The analogous silicyl phosphate (SiOs. PsOg) has a similar effect.

It remains to be seen whether the good drying effect of such substances, which do not attract water at normal temperatures, is due to the decomposition that occurs only when exposed to heat or to the fine distribution occurring during evaporation or to any other circumstance.

The extraordinarily good dry effect of phosphorus pentoxide is known, but the suggestion already made to introduce it directly into the lamp bell has so far not been practically realized because the phosphorus pentoxide is already in the air, i. H. absorbs moisture during the introduction into the lamp bell, so that after the lamp bell has melted, it has already lost some, if not all, of its effect. This is not to be feared with the new material to be introduced, since with this the phosphorus pentoxide, which in itself has a very good effect, only after completion of the lamp by decomposition, u. is released from the body due to heat exposure. becomes.

The introduction of borates mixed with small amounts of amorphous phosphorus into the lamp is also known. Such getters, however, primarily act on the precipitate of the vaporized luminous element metal that has already formed by converting it into a more transparent form.

The inventive incorporation substances, which have a very high degree of moisture-removing action, can be put into the glass vessel of vacuum lamps or gas-filled incandescent lamps in a known manner
 EMI1.1
especially when not only the light body, but also those parts of the lamp adjacent to it are provided with boron phosphate which, when the lamp is operated, assume a lower temperature than the light body, so that the decomposition or evaporation takes place gradually.

In addition to the new introduction substances that destroy water vapor, other substances known per se can also be introduced into the lamp which, such as phosphorus and arsenic, bind the residual gases of the lamp or which, such as halogen or oxygen salts (common salt, cryolite, borates), lighten the precipitate on the bell wall.
