Fusion bond between metal and glass.
In the Austrian patents No. 101492 and 101493 of the same company it is stated that the use of chrome iron as a material for melting on glass is compared to other substances
EMI1.1
10 to 50% or 10 to 30%. However, the applicant has noticed that chrome iron, which can be used for melting on glass, can oxidize to such an extent that some of the favorable properties and the excellent ones can be lost due to a content of oxygen-containing impurities or a chromium content approaching the lower limit of 10% Results mentioned in the above patents cannot be obtained. The present invention aims to obviate this disadvantage.
It has been shown that with chrome iron alloys the above-mentioned oxidation can be safely avoided and a perfect fusion bond between metal and glass can be established by adding a certain amount of aluminum to the alloy of iron with chrome. The aluminum content of this alloy is in the Usually only a few percent, preferably less than 5%.
Very good results have even been obtained with alloys containing less than 1% aluminum. An example of an alloy suitable for melting on glass is an alloy consisting of 20% chromium,% aluminum and the rest of iron. The suitable composition of the alloy depends on the type of glass that is desired to be fused onto the metal. In general it will be advantageous to increase the aluminum content at lower chromium contents.
An alloy according to the invention can be used with advantage for adhering the electrodes or other metal parts to the glass of electrical discharge tubes, lamps or the like; In general, the invention is used for melting metal disks, plates, rings, caps and rods. rods. wires or the like. Can find application.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for melting chromium iron alloys in glass, characterized in that aluminum-containing chromium iron is used, whereby the disadvantages arising from the oxidation are avoided.
