Control for offset working, direct acting compound steam engines.
The invention has the purpose of coupling the working pistons of direct-acting composite steam engines between which there is no mechanical coupling by shaft, cranks and connecting rods in a force-locking manner so that the stroke changes of the two working pistons do not coincide. This intermediate cycle mode of operation of the two composite steam cylinders and their pistons is brought about by the coil piston of the high pressure cylinder, known per se, which is the pilot element of the two piston valve controls, the high pressure cylinder and the low pressure cylinder.
Both piston slide controls are triggered and adjusted separately from each other at different points of the high pressure piston stroke, so that the stroke changes of the two working pistons do not coincide in any gait, u. zw. In such a way that the reversal of the low-pressure piston does not take place in the middle of the high-pressure piston stroke, but is only initiated in the second half of the same.
In this case, the steam distribution elements from the high and low pressure cylinders can be any known two-control piston piston valve controls which are adjusted by the working steam piloted by the coil piston of the high pressure cylinder.
EMI1.1
Facility indicated.
It leads from the high pressure cylinder at both ends of the stroke movement of its working coil piston H, the two control channels 2 and 3 to the control cylinders 6 and 7 of the high pressure cylinder and the two control channels 4 and 5 to the control cylinders 8, 9 of the low pressure cylinder. Through these openings in the control channels 2, 3, 4 and 5, which the high-pressure piston H in the high-pressure cylinder passes over, i.e. controls, the working steam of the high-pressure cylinder is controlled to and from the control cylinders of the high-pressure and low-pressure cylinder steam distribution organs.
However, only the opening of one of the two high-pressure and low-pressure control channels 2 or 3 and 4 or 5 can be connected to one of the associated high-pressure cylinder sides 11 or 10, while the opening of the corresponding other control channel is connected to the coil space 8 of the high-pressure piston H.
Between the high and low pressure cylinders, a sensor is arranged in a known manner, into which the high pressure cylinder emits its exhaust steam and from which the low pressure cylinder draws its working steam.
The play of the working pistons, in particular that of the high pressure piston H serving as a pilot control element of the two controls of the working cylinders, therefore proceeds as follows and the working piston positions shown in the drawing should be used as a starting point. The high-pressure piston H is in the middle of its stroke, the low-pressure piston N at its upper end of the stroke.
The live steam entering at 12 flows in known ways under the corresponding turning of the high pressure control member away through the lower high pressure channel to the lower one

represents. The working steam passes from the high pressure cylinder space-M through the Niederdrueksteuerungskanal J under the control piston of the control cylinder 9 to move the low pressure control member upwards. The control steam is discharged from the upper control cylinder 8 through the control channel 4 to the coil space S and through an opening 0 in the lifting means of the high-pressure cylinder to the outside.
The low pressure control member is adjusted and the low pressure piston N begins to go down.
The high-pressure piston H moves further upwards until, at the end of its stroke, it lets the working steam from the high-pressure cylinder chamber 10 enter the control cylinder 7 through the high-pressure control duct 5 and moves the high-pressure control element upwards to reverse the high-pressure piston H. The control steam emerges from the upper control cylinder 6 through the control channel, into the coil space and through the opening 0 into the open.
The high pressure control is adjusted and the high pressure piston H begins to go downwards to reverse the play. Direction to continue.
The peculiar cycle of the four stroke changes, in particular the relocation of the reversal of the low-pressure piston away from the center of the two high-pressure piston stroke changes and closer to the following high-pressure piston stroke change, is due to the following:
The piston speed of the low-pressure piston is influenced by the respective transducer pressure.
Since when throttling the high-pressure inlet steam, with the intention of making the engine run more slowly, the consumption pressure does not immediately decrease with it, the piston speed of the low-pressure piston will temporarily be greater than that of the high-pressure piston. As a result, it is necessary that the low pressure piston is not in the middle of the high pressure piston. nhubes, but only later, so that the stroke changes do not coincide at higher low-pressure piston speed and the trailing high-pressure piston has already turned in opposite directions before the low-pressure piston reaches its end of stroke.
With this two-way stroke change of compound steam engines, a bound flow rate is achieved with direct drive of two pump pistons, because with every stroke change of one pump piston the other is in the conveyance, an advantage with which the steam savings in the compound arrangement are combined.
The two-stage air pumps, which work directly and cross-over, are also improved by this intermediate stroke change. Since the low-pressure steam side is opposite the second pressure stage, the pressure drop on the steam side caused by the expansion is unfavorably opposed to the pressure increase of the second stage on the air side. There is therefore the risk that the low-pressure side does not remain superior to the increasing air pressure until the end of the stroke and therefore does not run out completely.
In the case of an intermediate stroke change, however, the low-pressure cylinder receives the post-flow from the high-pressure cylinder exhaust in the last half of the stroke, so that the low-pressure piston experiences another pressure increase towards its end of stroke, i.e. it runs out.
