Device for changing the volume of violins or the like. String instruments.
The invention relates to a further development or improvement of the device protected by patent no. 105856 for changing the volume of violins od. Like. String instruments, u. between. With regard to the attachment and adjustment of the damping flaps and the design of the control device for the same. According to the invention, the damping flaps are attached to an articulated pull-out frame that can be locked by clamping screws, which is attached to the tailpiece or fingerboard of the string instrument by means of clamping screws or clamps, for the purpose of easy attachment and adjustment of the damping flaps to the bridge.
Another characteristic of the invention is that the actuating flaps for the pulling wire of the damping flaps on the chin rest are on the side of the chin rest facing the web.
The type of fastening described in the main patent had the disadvantage that the setting up of the damping flap frame on the opposite belly could damage the same, and also an undesirable effect on the timbre was achieved.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 applied to a bass violin and in FIGS. 3 and 4 applied to a violin.
The two damping flaps 1 and 2 acting against the web s, of which the flap 2 is permanently in contact with the web in the normal position but the flap 1 protrudes, are either articulated to a common frame 3 or riveted to the frame 3 as resilient damping flaps . The frame 3 is fastened according to the invention either on the fingerboard (Fig. 1 and 2) or on the tailpiece (Fig. 3 and 4) in such a way that the frame is held freely floating below the bridge so that it does not come into contact with the opposite belly comes.
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, joint members 4 are provided for this purpose, which can be pulled out and locked by clamping screws 8, the latter of these members comprising the fingerboard G with a clamping bracket 9 and releasably connected to the fingerboard by screws 10, pins or the like is brought. In the manner described in the main patent, the wire pulls 5 and 6 according to FIGS. 1 and 2 lead to two foot rings 5 ", 6", by means of which the damping is either canceled by pulling off the flap 2 or increased by applying the flap 1 by pulling.
According to FIGS. 3 and 4, the floating frame 3 is fastened to the tailpiece S with the articulated members 4 by screwing the last member into the holes of the tailpiece by screws 7, the fastening of the strings belonging to these holes in this case to the last Link of the articulated lever and that takes place in holes of the same.
In both cases, the adjustment of the frame 3 is necessary because of the different distance of the bridge from the fingerboard or from the tailpiece. Instead of screw fastening on the tailpiece S, a similar clamp fastening as described for the fingerboard in accordance with FIG. 1 can naturally also be carried out, so that such a damping device can be fastened either to the fingerboard or to the tailpiece in the same way.
To prevent unintentional actuation of the damping flaps during the game, the control tabs 5 'and 6' of the two wire pulls on the chinrest k are hinged on the side facing the web, so that the chin on the chinrest must be pushed forward during the game to operate the flaps .
