Control drive for piston engines with cylinders arranged in a star shape.

It is known to drive the cam disk in piston engines with a star arrangement of the cylinders in that one or more intermediate shafts mounted in the crankcase are provided with gears which mesh with a ring gear firmly connected to the crankshaft. These arrangements have the disadvantage that the vibrations of the crankshaft are also transmitted directly to the cam disk and thereby have an unfavorable effect on the machine's operation.

According to the invention, the cam disk is mounted on a special holder that is firmly connected to the machine housing and through which the crankshaft is passed with play.

In the figure, an embodiment of the invention is shown in section.

The cam disk 1 slides on the sleeve 12 of the holder 2 fastened in the crankcase.

It receives its drive through the intermediary of the gears 3, 4 and 13, 14 and the pinion 6 firmly wedged with the crankshaft 5 Bushings 8 and 18 of the holder 2 are mounted on roller bearings. The control drive thus forms a coherent whole that can be displaced on the bushing, as a result of which the axial adjustability which is desirable for the precise construction is achieved. Lateral displacements of the cam disk 1 on the sleeve 12 are limited on the one hand by the wall of the bearing body and on the other hand by the side ring 9. This is held in place with the aid of a snap ring 10. For lubrication, a sleeve 11 firmly connected to the crankshaft is arranged between the sleeve 12 and the crankshaft 5.

The oil is fed through the channel 20. It passes through the bore 22 into the longitudinal groove 23 of the crankshaft, from there into the annular groove 21 of the sleeve 11. The annular groove 21 communicates with the annular groove 31 through transverse bores 34 and passes through them again the bore 33 with the surface to be lubricated of the sliding bearing. In order to prevent the oil from flowing between the bearing body and the liner, the resilient sealing rings 15, 16 seated in the annular grooves on the outer surface of the liner are provided.

The rotational movement of the crankshaft is transmitted to the cam disk 1 through the pinion 6 and the gears. This moves at a much lower speed in the opposite direction as the crankshaft, which makes the use of a plain bearing possible. The play provided between the sleeve 11 on the one hand and the sleeve 12 on the other hand is ample. Vibrations occurring in the crankshaft can therefore not be transmitted directly to the sleeve 12 and thus to the cam disk.

The pinion 6 sits close to the front crankshaft bearing 19. The vibrations passed on by the pinion are therefore kept within moderate limits from the start.

The double transmission dampens them even more so that noticeable vibrations no longer occur on the cam disk itself.
