still have connected consumer appliances. The voltage at the suction throttle is an alternating current voltage mainly of the third harmonic, and the magnetizing current is covered by the corresponding harmonic of the rectifier direct current.
If the rectifier direct current falls below a certain amount, then the harmonic is no longer sufficient to magnetize the suction throttle to the required value and the consequence of the reduced voltage drop is the increase in the rectifier voltage.
EMI1.3
Avoid loading the rectifier by externally exciting the suction throttle with a third harmonic current, so that the voltage drop is not a pure function of the loading current
EMI1.4
This current is expediently fed to a special excitation valve in the suction throttle. It generates a field of three times the frequency, which induces a voltage of three times the frequency in the suction throttle, which is independent of the load on the rectifier.
In this way, a voltage can be induced in the suction throttle, which corresponds in size, phase and frequency to the voltage which is generated by the rectifier current and which represents a voltage drop in the rectifier circuit. However, this voltage is now independent of the load and is therefore also present when the rectifier is completely relieved. This completely avoids the undesirable increase in voltage.
This device will be explained in more detail using the exemplary embodiment in the figure. In the figure

of three times the frequency at the terminals of the circuit D. Since the voltage on the winding Qi is a given and constant, the voltage of the third harmonic on the suction throttle is also constant and independent of the load current of the rectifier. In this way, the voltage increase in the DC network of the rectifier is avoided even when the load is completely removed.
Compared to the capacitors connected in parallel to the suction throttle, the inductive generation of the third harmonic current fed to a winding of the suction throttle in an external power source has the following extremely great advantages.
The capacitor only works when the rectifier delivers current and then only when the current is sufficiently large, while the period transformer of the application supplies the excitation current of the third harmonic for the suction throttle even when the rectifier is idle.
The phase of the third harmonic current generated by the capacitor cannot be adjusted, whereas this is the case with a current generated inductively in the period transformer (e.g. by combining windings or rotating the phase of the voltage supplied to the transformer).
During the period transformer for any desired third harmonic voltage

and breakdowns cannot be avoided with certainty at high voltages.
In connection with the self-induction of the suction throttle, the connected capacitor forms an oscillating circuit, which can cause disruptive resonance voltages. This danger does not exist when using a period transformer.
Finally, if the large rectifier operation involves relatively large currents, the capacitor is considerably more expensive than a period transformer, so that the price and economy of the subject of the application are also more favorable than that of the capacitor.
