Process for the preparation of water-insoluble azo dyes.
A process for the preparation of water-insoluble azo dyes from arylamides of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid and those monoaroylated 1: 3-phenyldiamines in which the imino hydrogen atom can be replaced by an alkyl or aralkyl radical and those in 4- and 6-position each have an alkyl group. The process of this invention gives consistently more or less blue-tinged red nuances with excellent fastness properties.
It has now been found that the replacement of one of the two methyl groups by an oxyalkyl group results in a very strong shift in the nuances of the dyes towards the blue side of the spectrum and that the dyes obtainable in this way are also distinguished by remarkable solvency properties.
The process for preparing the new dyes consists in combining aryl amides of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid with the diazo compounds of such monoaroylated 1: 3-phenylenediamines, either individually or on the fiber, which each have an alkyl and an oxalkyl group in the 4- and 6-positions and whose imide hydrogen atom can be replaced by an alkyl or aralkyl radical.
It has also been found that the replacement of one or both of the abovementioned substituents (in the 4- and 6-positions) with halogen atoms produces more or less bluish-tinged dyes which are also distinguished by very good fastness properties and above all excellent Have touch fastness.
A further embodiment of the process for the preparation of the new dyes consists in combining aryl amides of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid with the diazo compounds of such monoaroyl 1,3-phenylenediamines, individually or on the fiber, in which in 4- and 6- Position each stand a halogen atom and a methyl or an oxalkyl group or in which each halogen atom is in the 4- and 6-position and in which the hydrogen of the imino group can be replaced by an alkyl or aralkyl radical.
Example 1: The goods are primed with a solution which contains 3 g of the 2. 3-oxynaphthoic acid m-nitranilide per liter and then developed with 2. 7 g of the diazotized 1-amino-5-benzoylamino-2-methoxy-4- chlorobenzene per liter, rinses and soaps. A clear pink with excellent fastness properties is obtained.
Example 2: The fiber is primed with a solution which contains 2 g per liter of a 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid-S-naphthylamide, and 1-amino-2-chloro-4-methyl diazotized with 2,6 is then developed - 5-benzoylamidobenzene, rinses and soaps. A clear red of excellent color fastness is obtained.
Example 3: If the arylamide used according to Example 2 is replaced by the 4-chloro-2-toluidide of the 2nd 3-oxynaphtoic acid and developed with diazotized 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chloro-5-benzoylamidobenzene, a bluish red than according to Example 2, which has similar properties.
