Description

    Mutes for wind instruments.

The previous dampers for wind instruments consist of a thin, pear-shaped hollow body made of sheet metal or paper, which is inserted with its open end into the outlet opening of the blowpipe. The muffled tones always sound rather muffled and lose their timbre. It has been found through experiments that the dampening effect can be achieved without disturbing the sound purity with dampers or plug-in pears made of synthetic materials such as celluloid, cellulose or the like, as these have a higher elasticity than those previously known. Sole plug-in pears undoubtedly participate to a greater extent in the vibrations caused by the sound waves. The shape of the plug-in pear according to the invention can correspond to that of the known ones and is adapted to the design of the wind instruments.

A particular advantage of the new plug-in pears is that they are not dented if they fall out of the mouth of the blowpipe due to their elasticity.
