Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Wendet man beim

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  Secure nuts and methods for their manufacture are presented.

   There are numerous self-locking nut locks, including those that use an auxiliary body, such as a lock nut, washer, split pin, ring, cap or all sorts of other clamping pieces made of hard material, mostly eccentric or split. These bodies work in such a way that they clamp the nut on the screw shaft or on the seat surface.

   The majority of these are devices of a cumbersome type that prevent the unwanted loosening
 EMI1.1
 easier to manufacture. They often have either a split outside or one or more slits or incisions perpendicular or parallel to the longitudinal axis. The purpose of the slots is to allow the mother a certain freedom of elastic deformation, which works more or less in favor of the clamping of the nut against the part to be locked.

   The invention consists in a so-called non-detachable nut in the sense that the nut cannot loosen by accident as a result of bumps or vibrations, but that the nut can only be unscrewed with the aid of a wrench or similar tool.

   This mother has no additional part or body to secure her support. The production is simple and the clamping achieved is very strong.

   The nut, which is secure against loosening, according to the invention is preferably produced as follows:
1. Before the thread is cut, the blank is cut open along a plane which is completely or almost parallel to the axis, preferably along a plane that applies through the axis.

   2. The piece is then brought out of its shape in such a way that each of its contact or support surfaces,
 EMI1.2
 which previously had its center point on the axis, after the change in shape is transformed into a helical line, the axis of which corresponds completely or almost to the axis of the blank.

   3. After the reshaping, the piece is threaded and the nut thus created is ready for use.

   The invention is illustrated for example in the drawing.

   Figs. 1-4 show the different operations.

   Fig. 1 shows the blank from which the nut is made.

   The first treatment, FIG. 2, consists in making a slot F at the full height of the blank E, completely or almost parallel to the axis a-b. This slot may or may not coincide with an abutting edge of the wall surfaces. In the figure the slot goes through the axis; but it goes without saying that the slot could also occupy another position on the circumference of the piece if it only remained parallel to the axis.

   The split piece is now, FIG. 3, brought out of its shape in such a way that its support or head surface p forms into helical surfaces A. On each surface are the two edges 1, j! ' of
 EMI1.3
 produce technical means; the invention does not extend to this.

     Finally, the screw-shaped modified nut is provided with a thread, FIG. 4.

   When the nut is tightened, the tip of the lower edge 1 of the slot, or rather this edge itself over its entire length, comes into contact with the surface of the pad. If you turn

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 If force is attracted, the lower surface of the mother tries to match the supporting surface of her base; this results in: a) clamping of the screw along its generatrix, b) penetration of the edge 1 into the material of the base.

   These two circumstances strongly oppose a loosening of the nut.

   Other advantages of this screw lock are primarily the great simplicity. On the other hand, the cutting of the thread can be done very sharply fitting as a result of the slot; in this way, on the one hand, one avoids the play between the screw threads, but on the other hand also the excessive friction when the screw is cut without play. If it is too difficult to loosen the nut, a tool can be inserted into the slot in order to widen it by lever action in order to produce a slight play for the moment, which is used to make it easier to unscrew.

   It should be emphasized that the described locking nut differs from those which are provided with a slot parallel to the axis in that the slot is only intended to produce a certain elasticity for clamping the nut. In contrast, the main purpose of the slot in the locking nut according to the invention is to allow it to be converted into a screw-shaped nut. In addition, the slot is necessary to allow the thread to be clamped along one of the generatrix at the edges of the slot.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Against loosening secure screw nut, characterized in that the nut provided with a slot completely or almost parallel to the axis has screw-like running head surface and that the correspondingly displaced hole has the nut thread.
