EMI1.1
cleaning and at the same time have a sufficient rate of evaporation and because they usually create edges on the cleaned textiles and their smell adheres to the same for a long time. It has now been shown that these inconveniences are avoided if dichloromethylene is used as the stain remover alone or advantageously mixed with other solvents. The addition of alcohol is particularly suitable, since almost 25% alcohol can be added to dichloroethylene without reducing its non-combustibility, but this increases its dissolving power for various impurities, especially those of a resinous nature.
Likewise, you can add significant amounts of other flammable solvents, even gasoline, to the dichloroethylene without the mixture becoming flammable. B. can produce a very strong, non-flammable stain water from dichloroethylene by the simultaneous addition of alcohol and gasoline.
Furthermore, the dichloroethylene can be mixed with other non-flammable or less flammable stain-removing agents that are already in use and thereby lower their boiling point, i. H. increase their evaporation rate and, above all, their effectiveness. This increase in effectiveness is based on the fact that dichloroethylene, especially in the presence of alcohol, has such a high dissolving power for substances previously known to be sparingly soluble, such as. B. has hard resins like no other common solvent. Methylene chloride is also far superior to carbon tetrachloride, which is known to have a very high fat-dissolving power, as can be seen from the accompanying table.
As a result, methylene chloride forms an ideal solvent and extraction agent and thus also a means of removing fats, oils, resins and substances of all kinds for which gasoline, ether, benzene, alcohol, acetone or similar products were previously used as flammable and chlorinated hydrocarbons as non-flammable.
EMI1.2
Incombustibility, its extremely high dissolving power and its high evaporation rate.
