Such xanthates are produced by known methods by allowing carbon disulfide to act on the alkali metal alcoholates or on the alcohols in the presence of finely divided alkali metal hydroxide and removing any unreacted fatty alcohol by extraction with fat solvents.
Example 1: A viscose solution containing about 8% cellulose is added either during the dissolving process or after the ripening process, 0'4% (calculated on the cellulose content) of a sodium alkyl xanthate obtained from dodecyl alcohol. After spinning, the result is a matt, shiny artificial silk.
EMI2.1
the fiber weight calculated) cetyl xanthate were added. After the treatment, the cloth passes through a bath heated to 70 C and acidified with 0.5% acetic acid. The cloth is then evenly impregnated with fatty alcohol.
Instead of the sodium cetylxanthate, a mixture of eight parts of cetylxanthate and two parts of paraffin oil can be used in the same way.
Example 3: To increase the pliability of dyed rayon, 0'3% disodium phosphate and 0'5% of an alkyl xanthate obtained from the alcohols corresponding to the coconut fatty acids are added to the last rinse after dyeing. The result is a soft-grip artificial silk that does not tend to stick. The effect can be further increased by subsequent treatment with 0'3% vinegar or tartaric acid solution.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A process for the production of textiles greased with high molecular weight alcohols containing fatty substances, characterized in that the alcohols corresponding to the soap-forming carboxylic acids are combined in the form of their alkali metal oxanthates with fabrics, spun or unspun fibers or, in the case of synthetic fibers, with the pulp solution.
