<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Extrusion press for the production of metal sheets.
The object of the invention is to use one and the same extrusion press to produce fine and heavy plates without increasing the pressing pressure in an impermissible manner. There are already extrusion presses for the production of metal sheets in which the dies for determining the sheet thickness are fastened in an adjustable manner. The subject of the invention differs from these known extrusion presses in that the cross-section of a recess in the plunger, which serves to hold the metal to be processed, is determined by exchangeable steel plates which, together with the adjustable dies, form the outflow opening for the metal to be pressed .
This makes it possible to change the cross-section of the material to be pressed out in a simple manner at the same time as changing the sheet thickness to be produced and thereby to keep the ratio of the raw cross-section to the finished cross-section approximately constant.
It should also be noted that it is already known per se to provide a recess in the pressure ram which, together with the receiver, forms the outlet opening for the metal to be pressed out.
In the drawing, the extruder according to the invention is shown in two exemplary embodiments, u. Between FIG. 1 shows the overall arrangement of a double extrusion press designed as a hydraulic press in partial section, FIG. 2 shows a floor plan of FIG. 1 in partial

The device consists of a pressure cylinder or pick-up a which receives the material to be processed and in which a pressure ram b is guided. The pressure ram b is rigidly connected to a hydraulically operated piston e, which is arranged in a cylinder d. The cylinder d and the transducer a are rigidly connected to one another by columns e. The columns e serve the punch b and the piston c at the same time as a guide in that they are partially surrounded by a guide f rigidly attached to the piston c. The transducer a has a recess g and the pressure stamp b has a recess

and cleaned.
The thickness of the steel plate k determines the thickness of the metal block to be processed, which corresponds to the hardness and plasticity of the metal to be processed, as well as the ab-

simultaneous production of two metal sheets can be formed in that recesses q, r are arranged opposite the recesses g, h. A second die s is located above these recesses and is secured in its working position by a wedge t. When the device is designed for double operation, the wedges m, t can be connected to one another by a web 11, and a screw o can serve as a common pulling device for both wedges m, t. The stamp b is guided in recesses p (Fig. 3) of the transducer a.
If the provision is to be used, the disks for u together with disks k, v are first inserted into the recesses h, r of the punch b, whereupon the space between the punch and the receiver a is smeared with grease. Now the material to be processed is introduced either in a molten state or in the form of a block, which corresponds to the size of the cavity.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
After this has been done, the die!, S is inserted. The space remaining between the front edge, die and plate & determines the thickness of the sheet to be produced. After the die has been inserted, it is secured by wedges m, t, whereupon the hydraulically operated piston c and thus the plunger b are moved in the direction of the arrow (FIG. 1). In doing so, the material located between punch b and pick-up a is compressed and swells out of the opening between punch and die. This oozing material is the finished sheet. After the punch b has finished its stroke, it is returned to its initial position, and fresh material can be introduced after cleaning the cavities between the pick-up a and the pressure punch b.
