EMI1.1

EMI1.1
The invention relates to electric discharge tubes with a gas filling.
Such tubes mostly have the property of a negative resistance "for certain current intensities, i.e. an increase in the current flowing through them corresponds to a decrease in the voltage applied to the tube (falling characteristic"). Such a negative resistance often gives rise to undesirable high-frequency oscillations which, if the tube is used as a rectifier, can also cause interference in the connected and neighboring receiving apparatus.
The oscillations arise primarily from the fact that the capacitance consisting of the electrodes of the tube is periodically charged by the resistance and discharged again through the tube. This is related to the fact that their elimination by external switching means is difficult or even impossible.
According to the invention, therefore, in order to suppress these vibrations, the electrodes, or at least some of them, are made from a material of such a high specific resistance or coated with such a material that the resistance of the discharge tube is consistently positive.
As resistance material you can z. B. use coal, mixtures of coal and silicon compounds (Silit), ceramic materials or metal oxides. You can z. B. manufacture the anode from tantalum, which is oxidized on the surface. In the latter case, the tubes can be manufactured in a particularly simple manner, since the semiconductor layer alone can be produced by an oxidation process of the electrodes. If the tube contains an oxide cathode, the oxide layer can be made so thick that its resistance from the core to the surface has the required value.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Gas-filled discharge tube, characterized in that the electrodes or individual electrodes consist of a material of such a high specific resistance or are coated with it that the resulting resistance of the discharge tube is consistently positive.
