Process for the production of high-melting wax products similar to carnauba wax.

It is known that the hydrogenated (hardened) castor oil consisting essentially of 12-oxystearic acid triglyceride has a melting point which is very close to that of carnauba wax. Nevertheless, the product cannot be used in place of the camauba wax because it, in its
 EMI1.1
leaves. It also does not have the ability to bind solvents, which carnauba wax is used for the production of shoe polish, floor polish and the like. Like. Makes suitable. A shoe polish made from one part hardened castor oil and three parts turpentine oil lacks the smooth appearance of a carnauba wax cream, shows crystalline precipitates and can easily be separated into the crystalline glyceride and the related solvent, for example by pressing your finger.

It has now been found, however, that the hydrogenated castor oil can still be used excellently for the production of carnauba wax-like preparations if it is melted or used simultaneously with high-molecular and high-melting oxo or oxy compounds of the fat series or their derivatives. The products obtained in this way have the appearance, breakage and solvent (turpentine) binding capacity of real carnauba wax and can hardly be distinguished from it externally. The melting points are also very close to those of carnauba wax.

A product that is perfectly suitable for the production of shoe polish and floor polish is obtained
 EMI1.2
like mass without crystalline precipitations, which has all the properties of today's shoe polish, floor polish, etc. Like. Usual makes. Instead of the behenon used here, the ketones of other fatty acids, such as stearon (F = 880) or montanone, can also be used with the same success.

The same successes are also achieved if, instead of the ketones, high-melting alcohols of the aliphatic series, such as, for example, pentatriacontanol (18) (F = 920), hentriacontanol (16) (F = 85'60) and the like. a., or high-melting derivatives of such alcohols, such as dimyricyl oxalate (F = 91) or ceryl palmitate (F = 79), can be used. It is also by no means necessary to process only chemically pure products; a low acid content or other impurities have no disruptive effect if only the melting point of the additives is not significantly below 700.

If necessary, additives can therefore also be used which, like oxidized montan wax, considerable amounts of high-boiling ketone-like compounds and the like. like. included.

Finally, instead of the hardened castor oil, the glycol esters or the mono- and diglycerides of 12-oxystearic acid, which differ only slightly in their melting point from that of the triglyceride, can also be used in the same way.
