Process for the production of unbreakable, washable, white writing boards for graphite u. like
Writing and drawing.
Washable, unbreakable, white writing boards for graphite or. Like. Writing and drawing are known. These are manufactured in such a way that a solid base made of cardboard or the like is provided with coatings of inorganic and organic substances (marble cement, zinc white, varnish, turpentine, etc.). Since the coatings have to be applied to the substrate in several layers in this case, these methods are cumbersome, time-consuming and expensive. In addition, panels made in this way are very difficult to wipe off.
These disadvantages are avoided with other known school blackboard paints in which rubber, gutta-percha or so-called rubber surrogates (such as resins, linseed oil boiled with chlorosulfur, etc.) or mixtures of these substances with the addition of sulfur or vulcanizing sulfur compounds and the lightest possible filler are used - Apply substances (such as zinc white, lithopone, talc earth, etc.) in a thin layer to the substrate and heat it to a temperature required for vulcanization. This heating (temperatures of up to 180 ° C. can be used), which lasts about ½ hours, naturally makes such writing boards more expensive, apart from the fact that it makes mass production impossible.
Another known panel paint, which also does not have the disadvantages mentioned above, contains a liquid as a binder for pigments or crushed stone material, which is obtained by separately dissolving oils or fats of one cellulose and acetyl cellulose on the other hand in suitable volatile solvents and then combining the two solutions . This union is going on very slowly.
If it is to be done quickly, the work must be carried out under heating and pressure, which naturally makes the process more expensive. Apart from the fact that working with the substances mentioned is flammable, it does not allow mass production here either. All of these disadvantages are avoided by the present invention.
The same consists essentially in that gelatin, chloral hydrate, magnesium sulfate and magnesium fluate are dissolved in water and then Lithopone is added to the solution, whereupon the mixture obtained in this way is applied to the base in a known manner, dried and sanded off. The application takes place in a single layer and does not require any further treatment.
The drying of such writing surfaces takes about 24 hours in the air.
It is expedient to use 30 parts of warm water, 10 parts of gelatin, 10 parts of chloral hydrate, 10 parts of magnesium sulfate, 5 parts of magnesium fluate (these last three substances in powder form) and 35 parts of lithopone.
The advantageous procedure here is to first dissolve the gelatin in hot water and then slowly add chloral hydrate, magnesium sulphate and magnesium fluate in sequence until all of these substances have dissolved. Then the addition of Lithopone takes place.
In the mixture, the water serves as the solvent, the gelatin as the binding agent and the chloral hydrate to maintain the liquid and spreadability of the mixture during application on the surface. The magnesium sulphate makes the finished board easy to wipe off, while the magnesium fluate gives the layer applied to the base the necessary hardness. The lithopones give the board its white color.
