Watercraft with side walls that can be folded down to the ground.

The invention relates to watercraft with side walls that can be folded down onto the floor, these side walls being folded down and opened again for use in order to reduce the space required for storage and during transport. In known watercraft of this type, one or more pairs of struts or struts are provided. The outer or upper ends of these struts or struts are connected to the side walls of the vehicle near the upper edge of the same by universal joints.

According to the invention, the lower ends of each pair of struts or struts are connected to one another by joints, but otherwise free, and can be on the longitudinal center line of the floor between a position in which the two struts or struts of a pair lie in the same vertical plane, the side walls keep unfolded, and a position in which the two struts or struts of the pairs converge at an acute angle in an approximately horizontal plane and slide the side walls lying on the ground.

This provides a convenient and reliable means of maintaining the side walls of the vehicle in the erected position.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown: object, u. Between Fig. 1 shows a central longitudinal section of the boat according to the invention, Fig. 2 shows a top view of the folded up boat, Fig. 3 shows a cross section of the ready-to-use erected boat, Fig. 4 shows a cross-section.
 EMI1.1
Figure 4 is a cross-section of a joint between the floor and a side wall of the erected boat showing the placement of the fabric in the articulation of the two; Figure 7 is a cross-section of the seam with the boat folded; Figure 8 is a cross-section of the seam with the fabric alternately arranged; Fig. 9 shows a suitable tendon apparatus in elevation.

A denotes the floor of the vehicle or boat, bunch n are its side walls, the lower edges of which follow the outline of the floor over the entire length. These parts are made of a relatively stiff material, such as plywood, which is sufficiently pliable that both ends of the floor can be bent open sufficiently and both ends of each side wall can be bent inwardly in the shape of the bent-up floor ends. The side walls and the bottom are articulated to one another along their entire length by strips D, E of flexible material, such as fabric (FIGS. 6 and 7), which is fastened both on the outside and on the inside of the joint. The outer strip is sewn onto the inner, as indicated at F, in order to avoid loose spots on the outer strip, as mentioned above.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8, an additional fabric strip P is inserted between the strips D and E and attached to the outside of the side wall B and to the top of the base A. This strip U is intended to absorb impacts and stresses that the floor ici. exposed, for example if a boat gets aground, and thus relieve the seam F.

Slats (/ - can be attached to the outside of the boat in order to strengthen it and to absorb the bumps that occur when the boat is in use and to avoid chafing due to the ground.

H are pairs of hollow struts or struts that are connected to the side walls B, a by universal joints. In the illustrated embodiment, two pairs of struts are assumed,

the lower ends of the struts of each pair, which are articulated to one another at J, along a steel rail J (in the longitudinal center line of the boat. until the struts are almost horizontal and form an acute angle with one another, as shown in Fig. 2). This movement results in a rotation the strut opposite the side walls of the boat by nearly 90- a.

The universal joint can be of any suitable type. In the case of the one shown in FIG

upper edge of the boat, with a nut on the shaft preventing it from coming loose. The joint also consists of a fork; with a threaded shaft which is on the one hand somewhat rotatable in a nut thread at the end of the hollow strut H and on the other hand is articulated to the head of the pin 111 by a bolt.

If a locking device is provided it may be of any suitable type.

For example, it can consist of a hook P which can be rotated in the bearing C at the outer end of the steel rail A and which is rotatable around its pin. that the hinged ends of the struts H can slide away from under him, whereupon he falls over these ends in order to hold the struts in their erect position. A spring R pushes the other end of the hook P up to hold the latter in the engaged position. By pressing down a step S on the top of the other end of the hook, the hook can be lifted from the struts against the action of the spring R when the vehicle is to be folded up.

A screw T can be provided: 4ein which can be screwed down to the rail K after the struts have been erected.
