Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  Vacuum cleaner with dust separation caused by liquid.

   Liquid filters for vacuum cleaners have the advantage of binding the bacteria contained in the dust. However, if all of the dust is carried through the liquid, an increasingly viscous sludge quickly forms; also, when large amounts of dust occur at the same time, they easily become small
 EMI1.1
 This formation of air vortices through the interposition of a very fine filter, this is also very quickly silted up.

   In order to prevent these disadvantages, it is known that the majority of the dust in the usual way
 EMI1.2
 only the finest dust particles and bacteria that come through the dust bag have to pass through the liquid. The liquid becomes this. As is known per se, a bactericidal chemical is added so that most bacteria are killed. The invention now aims to accommodate this filter arrangement in a can vacuum cleaner.

   In the drawing, an embodiment of the vacuum cleaner is shown.

   In a bucket-like vessel 1, which is sealed airtight at the top and connected to the suction motor 2, there is a container 3 open at the bottom. The upper part of this container is provided with a removable cover 4 that closes airtight. into which the air line 5 opens, which leads through the bucket wall and to which the vacuum hose or suction line is connected 6. The connection of the air line through the bucket wall is done by means of a screw connection 7 so that the air line pipe 5 together with the cover 4 can be easily removed .

   In the container. 3 is airtight and removable a dust bag 8, which is cut somewhat conically so that it does not touch the
 EMI1.3
 If so, the lower part of the dust bag can also consist of impermeable material, which has the advantage that the air escaping laterally through the porous part allows the dust to fall into the depth of the bag, thereby avoiding clogging of the pores.

   The container. 3 reaches almost to the bottom of the bucket 1, on which it stands with a few feet 13.

  If the bucket is now filled with a little liquid 9, as soon as the suction motor is working, the sucked in air must first pass through the air line 5 and then the cover 4, then enter the dust bag 8 and deposit the main amount of dust there. The air, which has already been thoroughly pre-cleaned, exits the dust bag at the side and bottom and then penetrates the liquid 9. It rises outside the container 3 and is sucked in by the motor. It is advantageous to arrange a fine-pored filter, for example a rubber sponge, in contact with the liquid at the lower end of the container 3, which is supported by a sieve against the direction of the suction flow.

   The sieve can be attached to the outer edge of the container 3 above the rubber sponge 10; it can also form the container bottom 14 and then lies below the rubber sponge 15. The edge of the rubber sponge, which is somewhat larger, lies against the container or bucket wall in a sealing manner. In order to hold down rising foam, one can also attach foam catchers 12 to the outer wall of the container 3, which prevent the rising of foam bubbles that form.

   Vacuum cleaners of this design have the advantage that they use much less liquid than liquid vacuum cleaners, which collect all dust in liquid, as does liquid

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 has to be replaced much less frequently and that such vacuum cleaners can also be used as ordinary dry vacuum cleaners (i.e. without liquid).
