Production of matrices or printing forms from easily breakable natural products.
It is known that matrices are made from a wide variety of materials for the production of color prints. It is also known that in the natural self-printing process, plants, flowers, grasses, etc. are pressed into lead plates under high pressure and in this way clichés of large size
Faithfulness to nature emerges.
All these matrices produced for printing purposes, even if they reproduce natural forms and forms of fine art objects in a very lifelike form, do not completely reproduce the delicacy of nature.
The purpose of the present process is to remove natural products such as flowers, leaves, grasses,
Bark, etc., to produce completely true-to-shape color prints by using the objects mentioned as matrices for making clichés or clichés for color printing.
This process is a gravure printing process in which the printing form is produced so that, for. B. in the case of a plant part, the uppermost protective layer (the epidermal cells) is destroyed in such a way that the underlying tissue parts are exposed, so that they are able to absorb more or less color depending on their depth.
After the exposed tissue parts have solidified, an impression can also be taken in a known manner.
To remove the epidermis, the part of the plant to be treated is expediently treated, for example with sulfuric acid. The time of the treatment depends on the concentration of the treatment liquid or the fineness of the objects to be treated and can be between one second and a few hours. The plant parts treated in this way require consolidation. This takes place after the parchmentation achieved, for example, by sulfuric acid and neutralization with any alkali, for example with ammonia, by treatment with an elasticizing substance, e.g. B. with alcoholic glycerine solution, drying and coating with a varnish.
In this state, the plant is a finished matrix, which can be used either directly as a printing form for small print runs or as the basis of a gravure form for industrial evaluation.
