then the desulphurisation of the already bleached silk. The embodiment described first has the particular advantage that a very short liquor is used, so that a higher concentration and thus an increased bleaching effect is achieved without additional expenditure on hydrogen peroxide. Both embodiments have the particular advantage of simplicity, since the time-consuming washing, which is associated with the methods currently in use, is saved. In addition, excellent bleaching effects are achieved and the fibers are very spared and their mechanical properties are not impaired.
Sodium pyrophosphate is particularly suitable as the alkaline substance, but other substances such as water glass, diphosphate triphosphate, soap solution and others can also be used.
Embodiments of the method are described below; however, it is not intended to limit the invention in any way to the details of the illustration.
EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS 1. 100 g parts by weight of air-dry, non-desulphurized silk are soaked with an aqueous solution containing 1% sodium pyrophosphate and 0-5% H 2 O 2 and the excess liquid is removed until the weight of the material to be treated is approximately 200 parts by weight. The silk is then left in a closed vessel at 350 for 3 hours. It is then treated in a bath which contains 1% Marseille soap and 1% sodium pyrophosphate for 20 minutes and thereby desulfurized. The bleached and desulphurised silk is then thoroughly washed and dried.
2.35 parts by weight of unsulfurized silk are treated in a bath consisting of 350 parts of water, 3/2 parts of sodium pyrophosphate, 3 parts of 30% strength hydrogen peroxide at a temperature of 500 for two hours. The temperature of the bath is then increased to 950 and the silk is left in the bath for a further 20 minutes. The now bleached and desulphurized silk is taken from the bath and washed first with cold, then with warm water and then dried.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for bleaching and desulfurizing structures made from viscose using alkalis, predominantly as desulfurizing agents and hydrogen peroxide, predominantly as bleaching agents, characterized in that the non-desulfurized products are first treated at such a low temperature that the treatment liquid mainly only has a bleaching effect and then desulphurized in an alkaline bath at elevated temperature in the absence of substantial amounts of hydrogen peroxide.
