Spark gap for generating electrical waves.

It is known to use poor conductors for various purposes in electrical engineering, which conductors consist of more or less fine metal particles encased in an insulating material.

Such bodies can be used in particular to produce electrical oscillations, and the subject matter of the invention is a spark gap consisting of such a body, which consists of bakelite and copper particles, whereby a solid structure is provided and any shapes can easily be produced under hot pressing.

It is thus easy to use this spark gap to produce a simple, solid and cheap wave generator which only requires a direct current source.
 EMI1.1
was obtained, or with powdered metal, as it is used in the copper-plating of certain bodies. The dust thus obtained is with a. Solution of Bakelite mixed in a suitable solvent, for example acetone, the dough produced in this way brought into a suitable shape with pressure and then cooked at a temperature which is sufficient for the polymerization of the Bakelite. The purpose of this process is to make Bakelite extremely hard, insoluble and non-flammable.

The attached figure shows, for example, in which way one can generate electrical waves by means of a plate of the above composition.

This plate or circular disk 8 lies between the metal lamellas 9 and 11, which are full or hollowed out in order to allow water to circulate if necessary. The two metal lamellas are connected to the two poles of a direct current source 12, it being possible for a capacitor 13 to be shunted to increase the capacitance of the two fittings.

If this device is then connected by means of conductors 14, 15 to a consumer of electrical waves, for example to an antenna, in the same way as the spark gap of a spark wave generator, it can be observed that small spark chains occur, which are sprayed between the metal particles embedded in the insulating layer . This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that the circular disk is a poor conductor and thus the entire device of the circular disk and the fittings 9 and 11 acts as a capacitor, which is shunted by a high resistance, the capacitance of the capacitor being connected in parallel Capacitor 13 can still be increased.

As soon as the potential difference between the fittings 9 and 11 has risen sufficiently under the influence of the charge caused by the power source 12, the sparks are sprayed between the metal parts, whereupon the capacitors recharge and the same sequence of phenomena repeats itself without a number. The device can act as a spark gap and as a damping device at the same time.

This attempted explanation is made with all the necessary reservations. The invention, however, consists in the product described, its device and its circuitry, regardless of whether the scientific hypothesis is correct or not.

In addition, the size of the copper particles, the ratio of copper and bakelite used to manufacture the plates, or both at the same time, can be varied depending on the requirements placed on the equipment, in particular with regard to the voltage and the current strength, which one uses
