    Amplifier circuit.

Amplifier circuits are known in which the tube is controlled asymmetrically. The operating point is either moved to the lower bend of the characteristic curve (so-called B amplifier) or it is even shifted to the area beyond the lower bend (C amplifier) by means of a strong negative grid bias. The first arrangement is widely used in push-pull output stages of low-frequency amplifiers, while the second method is used in transmitter output stages. In both cases, there is a risk that if the external resistance is incorrectly selected (the anode circuit is detuned in the case of transmitters, incorrect output transformers or short circuits in the case of amplifiers), the anode losses will increase sharply and lead to the destruction of the tubes.

In cases in which the use of the correct external resistance cannot be guaranteed, protective measures against this risk of overload are required, especially with music amplifiers.

The arrangement shown in FIG. 1 serves this purpose. In parallel with the grid AC voltage source (E Tr) of the amplifier tube V is an auxiliary tube H, u. zw. Such that the anode of the auxiliary tube H is facing the grid of the amplifier tube V. The grid of the auxiliary tube is z. B. a fraction of the anode alternating voltage of the amplifier tube V is supplied via a capacitive coupling, which is taken from a parallel to the amplifier tube potentiometer P. Just as the alternating grid voltage of the amplifier tube V and its anode alternating voltage 1800 are phase-shifted with respect to one another, the anode alternating voltage and grid alternating voltage of the auxiliary tube H 180 are also phase-shifted with respect to one another.

If the auxiliary grid alternating voltage is sufficient, the auxiliary tube remains permanently de-energized and does not affect the grid alternating voltage of the main tube. If the external resistance Ra decreases, the anode alternating voltage of the amplifier tube V and thus also the grid alternating voltage of the auxiliary tube H decrease, so that at a critical value of Ra given by the setting of the potentiometer P, the auxiliary grid alternating voltage is no longer sufficient to block the auxiliary tube H. . This then represents a load resistance in the positive half-waves of the controlling alternating grid voltage (E Tr), which leads to the collapse of this voltage. This effect can be supported by a resistor R, which is connected between the anode of the auxiliary tube H and the grid alternating voltage source.

With the collapse of the controlling alternating grid voltage in the positive half-wave, the risk of overloading the main tube is avoided.

In push-pull stages, this arrangement must of course be carried out separately on each side.

But there is also the possibility of the protective arrangement in the grid circle of a preamplifier tube

voltage of the associated amplifier tube, is shifted, which can easily be effected by the arrangement of the coupling means between the anode of the asymmetrically controlled end tube and the grid of the auxiliary tube.

The same mode of operation can be achieved with a circuit according to FIG. 3. If the external resistance is sufficiently high, the auxiliary tube represents an infinitely large resistance. If the external resistance and thus the resistance of the auxiliary tube becomes smaller, an audio effect occurs, i.e. H. the positive half-waves are rectified in the auxiliary tube, so that the con-

capacitor 0 takes place, through which the rest potential of the amplifier grid is moved further into the negative grid voltage area, so that in this way overloading of the end tube is avoided.
