Process for the preparation of anhydrous ethyl alcohol.
It is known. To use dehydrating substances, especially hygroscopic salts, for the production of absolute alcohol. Most of the methods known to date boil down to this.

In the process described in British Patent No. 224903, a solution or suspension of dehydrating salts is used. such as B. calcium chloride. Potassium acetate. used in absolute alcohol to dehydrate alcohol vapors. This process also works discontinuously and is technically unsatisfactory because the used dehydrating agent is obtained in aqueous solution and has to be recovered from this in a laborious, at least uneconomical manner in a separate operation in an anhydrous state in which it can be used again.
It has now been found that this type of drainage can easily be designed continuously. if the dehydrating salt used is recovered after the dehydration stage and the salt recovered in an anhydrous, molten state is immediately dissolved in absolute alcohol. That's how it works. to concentrate aqueous alcohol continuously with a relatively simple apparatus; furthermore you can choose any
EMI1.4
Salt in the molten state in concentrated alcohol takes place more easily and quickly than with other methods and blockages of the apparatus with solid substances are avoided.
Naturally, only those salts that dissolve in absolute alcohol are suitable as dehydrating salts. Some known drainage agents. such as B. potassium carbonate, copper sulfate, calcium oxide, etc., are therefore out of the question. On the other hand, the method z. B. with calcium chloride.
Carry out magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate and other salts; Potassium acetate has proven to be particularly suitable.
It is advantageous to work in a turf column in which the vapors of the water-containing alcohol rise and in this case from a solution of a dehydrating salt in absolute alcohol
