Process for making two-tone films and plates.
In order to produce a supplementary blue-green partial image in the simplest possible way in a gelatin layer which already contains a cleared, copper-toned partial color image, the method of the present invention is used
Invention for the first time an aqueous solution of a chromate, which at the same time a slightly unhardened
Gelatin contains washable blue-green dye. The gelatin layer containing the red partial image is soaked in this solution and dried in the dark. If a film (plate) made photosensitive in this way is exposed under the negative red filter required for the blue-green partial image, the areas hit by the light become hard due to the formation of chrome gelatin.
These hardened
In a subsequent wash, spots hold the blue-green dye firmly, while the uncured, remaining soluble parts of the image slowly release it. To achieve this goal, a particularly strong exposure to light is necessary, which exceeds twice what is otherwise usual for the production of chrome glue and the z. B. can be achieved by using a concentration lens. The unchanged chromate also dissolves, but not the gelatine in cold water. The method described can also be used to produce three-color images, the red partial image being made more bluish by adding cobalt salt to the copper clay bath and a pure blue dye being used for the second partial image.
The yellow partial image is then produced in a second layer.
Example:
After a green filter negative, a black and white image is produced on film (plate) in a known manner, tinted brick-red in a copper toning bath (possibly with the addition of cobalt salt for the purpose of rose-red coloring) and clarified in a solution of fixing soda. Then it is soaked in a dilute solution of Ammoniumehromat, which contains an appropriate amount of Patent Blue and Rapidfilter Yellow, and dried in the dark. Under the associated red filter negative, this layer is exposed in the sun (quartz light, arc light) with tenfold concentrated sunlight for 15 seconds, for example using a concentration lens, in exact register, then rinsed in cold water for a long time until the lights have become clear, which is then immediately taken in the alcohol bath dries.
With the method described, two-color images are obtained in the simplest and therefore safer way.
