Elektrischer Ofen mit selbstbackender Elektrode.
EMI1.1

Electric oven with self-baking electrode.
EMI1.1
The invention consists in that the electrical current is fed to the electrode without passing through the contact surface between the mold and the electrode mass, so that no current is transferred directly from the mold to the mass within. Such a current causes a sudden coking of the binding agent of the electrode compound, whereby the compound is burned to the mold. On the other hand, when the current is supplied to the electrode regardless of the shape, the baking of the electrode takes place essentially from within, and during baking
EMI1.2
The invention is particularly applicable to aluminum furnaces in which iron contacts are inserted into the electrode from the outside. Such an oven is e.g. As described in Norwegian Patent No. 44736. However, the invention can also be used in connection with contacts which are arranged perpendicularly in the electrode mass within the electrode shape. You can also arrange special contacts in the electrode mass, which rest on the inside of the mold and absorb the current from it without developing so much heat that the binding agents of the mass are largely removed from coking.
In the drawing, the invention is shown for example. Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the furnace, Fig. 2 shows the electrode shape on the side of the contacts.

During operation, the rails 6 are each connected to the bottom row of contacts. When the frame 7 is lowered, the electrode 1 slides down in the stationary form 2, the latter taking up part, about half, of the electrode weight due to the friction that occurs.
