Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Querrichtung verschiedene Dicke erhält, also z.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Device for the production of plate-shaped visual resistors.

   For adjustable resistors, potentiometers, etc. Like. Resistance elements are often used, which consist of a resistance layer applied to a plate made of insulating material.

  The resistive layer is generally applied by spraying, with templates being inserted between the atomizing device and the layer carrier. However, a lot of resistance mass is lost during this spraying process, since a very considerable part of the sprayed mass gets onto the stencils and only a relatively small part reaches the plate to be provided with the resistance face. The resistance mass that gets onto the stencil increases rapidly in thickness and in particular also covers the edges of the stencil appearance, so that, if the stencils are not washed off very frequently, the substrate is sprayed irregularly.

   Another disadvantage of the spraying method is that the compressed air flow partially removes the liquid in which the poorly conductive substance (e.g. carbon) is suspended and which, for example, acetone is used, in vapor form, which on the one hand leads to the breathing air is worsened, so that this process can only be carried out in rooms which are equipped with powerful ventilation and extraction devices and on the other hand the ratio of the components of the suspension to one another and thus also the resistance value of the layer sprayed onto the layer support in the course of carrying out the process is changed.

   It is also already known to produce strip-shaped resistors in such a way that a resistance compound is brushed onto an insulating carrier by means of a brush. However, this method is very imprecise, so that it cannot be used for the production of variable resistors, where it is important to maintain a specific resistance curve.

   In order to avoid all of the above-mentioned inconveniences, a device is used according to the invention for the production of plate-shaped film resistors in which a container that holds the suspension or the like containing the resistance material is provided with an outlet opening which directly passes through and through the carrier of the resistance layer a layer is applied to this carrier, the thickness of which can be kept the same from beginning to end or can be changed according to any given curve by controlling the amount of resistance mass emerging from the outlet opening of the container.

   In a preferred embodiment of the device, the cross-section of the outlet opening of the resistance mass container can be regulated by means of a slide or the like and preferably also completely closed.

   Further features of the invention are to be explained below, in part with reference to an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. In this drawing, FIG. 1 shows, on an enlarged scale, a vertical section through part of the device according to the invention and FIG. 2 shows a top view thereof, while FIG. 3 shows a side view of the application device alone.

   In the cavity 1 of a container 2, the liquid resistance mass is accommodated, which is to be applied to the plate 3 made of insulating material shown in FIG. The container 2 has an outlet opening 4, which can be kept closed or more or less opened by means of a slide 5. The slide 5 has a projection 6 in which a roller 7 is mounted. This roller 7 rests against a guide piece 8 which is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 9 that is screwed onto the container 2. Between the upper surface of the sleeve 9 and a second extension part.

   M des

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   A spring 11 is inserted into the slide, which tends to push the slide 5 upwards and thereby causes the roller 7 to be kept pressed against the guide piece 8. The guide piece 8 is flat on its underside over a part 8 '(FIG. 3), while another part 8 "forms a ramp for the roller 7, which is finally followed by a part'". The guide piece 8 also has an extension 12 on which a spring 13 engages, the other end of which is fastened to a support piece 14 firmly connected to the container 2.

   The extension 12 cooperates with a curved guide 15 in a manner described later.

   According to FIGS. 1 and 2, it is assumed that the curved guide 15 together with the base for the plate 3 is stationary and the container 2 rotates. The path of movement of the container 2 is indicated by the circular line 16 provided with an arrow. Such a movement of the container can for example be brought about in such a way that, as shown, the container 2 is connected by means of an arm 17 to a shaft 18 which is driven in any suitable manner. Fig. 2 shows the parts in that position where the application of the resistive layer on the substrate 3 is about to begin.

   At this moment the extension 12 of the guide piece 8 meets the obliquely or curved part 15 ′ of the curved guide 15, whereby the guide piece 8 is rotated relative to the container 2 while the spring 13 is tensioned. As a result, the inclined part 8 ″ and then the flat part 8 ′ ″ of the guide piece 8 pass over the roller 7, so that the slide 5 is pulled upwards under the action of the spring 11 and the outlet opening 4 of the container 2 is opened.

   The slide 5 remains open as long as the extension 12 of the guide piece 8 runs on the circular part 15 ″ of the curve guide 15, and is closed when the extension 12 reaches the inclined or curved part 1 ′ ″ at the other end of the curve guide 15, ie runs from this curve guide, since the spring 13 can then pull the extension 12 and thus also the guide piece 8 back into the original position, whereby the part 8 'of the guide piece 8 in the position shown in FIGS. 1 and 3 above the roller 7 arrives and moves the slide 5 down into its final position.
 EMI2.1
 Generate at the beginning or end of the resistor 3.

   If the middle part 15 "of the curve guide lying between the named end parts 15 'and 15"' is circular, as shown, then the part of the resistance layer lying between the start and end parts is applied with a constant thickness. However, instead of the circular shape, any other limiting curve can also be used for the central part 15 ″ of the curve guide and thereby largely vary the thickness of the applied layer in the direction of application.

   In the illustration in FIG. 2, it is assumed that the delimiting edges of the resistance layer applied to the carrier 3 should run radially to the direction of movement 16. For this purpose, the slide 5 and the delimiting edge 4 'of the outlet opening 4 which come into contact with the carrier 3 are arranged radially. However, it is sometimes expedient to let the boundary edges of the layer run obliquely instead of radially. In this case, the application device must then be designed in such a way that the delimiting edge 4 ′ of the outlet opening 4 and likewise the slide 5 are inclined to the direction of movement 16.

   The delimiting edge 4 ′ of the outlet opening 4 does not have to be straight, but it can also have a curved shape in order to obtain a correspondingly curved delimitation of the applied resistance layer. Furthermore, the cross section of the outlet opening of the container 2 can be given a shape deviating from the rectangular shape, e.g. B. trapezoidal shape in that the lower edge of the slide 5 is arranged instead of parallel at a small angle to the edge 4 'of the container opening. As a result, the exit opening has an increasing width in the direction perpendicular to the direction of movement 16, with the result that the applied resistance layer in the
Transverse direction receives different thickness, so z. B. from the inner edge to the outer edge of the carrier 3 increases in thickness.

   Instead of regulating the amount of resistance material emerging from the outlet opening 4 of the container 2 by changing the size of this outlet opening, as previously described, the amount of resistance mass emerging from the opening 4 can also be regulated or changed by opening the container 2 connects to a device for generating a controllable overpressure in this container 2, by means of which more or less mass is pressed out of the opening 4 depending on the set pressure of the compressed air. You can also vice versa in the container 2 by a suitable device, for. B. a pump to generate a correspondingly regulated vacuum, which counteracts the effect of gravity under which the mass flows out of the outlet opening.

   It is particularly favorable to combine the mechanical control of the discharge quantity, as described with reference to the drawing, with a device for generating a negative pressure, which device is brought into effect especially at the moment the application of the resistance layer is ended. It is then reliably prevented that inaccurate termination parts of the applied layer arise as a result of unintentional dragging of resistance material out of the opening 4.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to the invention, resistors can also be produced in which the resistance layer is composed of several sub-layers in order to achieve any desired resistance profile, these sub-layers optionally also being able to overlap one another at least partially. Either one and the same application device can be used several times in succession to apply resistance material on the same substrate, it being necessary to use different cam guides 15 for the individual application processes. In some cases, however, it will be preferable to work with a plurality of applicators, e.g. zw. With as many application devices as the resistor to be produced should have parts.

   Each of the order arrangements then brings one of the partial
 EMI3.1
 on. The production is expediently carried out continuously by moving onto a transport device. g a number of insulating plates 3 is placed, which then go one after the other under the individual application devices. The insulating plate 3 booked under the first application device is provided with the first resistance layer by this application device and then passes through an oven in which at least partial drying and / or curing takes place. This drying only needs to go so far that when the next Layer mixing of the two layers can no longer take place.

   The plate provided with the first layer. 3 now passes under the second application device, which applies the second resistance layer, etc. At the same time, the next plate 3 carried by the transport device passes under the first-mentioned application device, etc. Of course, the arrangement does not have to be made in such a way that the individual insulating panels. 3 are guided along fixed application devices, but these insulating plates 3 can also stand still for the entire duration of the application of all layers, while the application devices that, for. B. are mounted on a type of turret, in sequence over the plate in question. 3 arrive. The partial drying or

   Hardening of the applied resistance layers can be achieved either by providing the base on which the insulating plate rests with a heater or by placing the insulating plate in an oven for a short time using a suitable device after a partial layer has been applied swings in. After returning to its old position, the next partial layer is applied by the application device, which has now advanced.

   It is advantageous to bring a pressing or polishing member to act on each applied layer as soon as this layer has dried at least to the point that it is no longer sticky. It is already known per se to compress and equalize resistance lines on their surface by means of a pressing or polishing process. If not only the final surface of the resistor, but also every single one of the applied parts is subjected to a pressing or polishing process, a much more far-reaching constancy of the resistance curve is achieved for all pieces of a production series than if a pressing or polishing process only takes place when already all sub-layers of the resistor in question are applied.

   The pressing or polishing element can have various shapes. In particular, it is also possible to process those resistance layers with a rotating polishing element which, in the manner indicated earlier, have unequal thicknesses in the transverse direction. The polishing element then only needs to be designed with a correspondingly inclined work surface. Even if a press ram is used, it can be designed with an inclined or otherwise suitably profiled pressure surface. Sometimes it will be advisable to provide the pressing element with preferably electrical heating in order to accelerate the drying of the resistance sight.

   In the drawing, an example embodiment of a device is shown, which is used to apply circular ring-shaped resistance layers. However, the device can also easily be modified in such a way that with the same the application of resistance lines takes place according to a straight line or any desired curve shape instead of a circular line. A correspondingly differently designed guide 15 must then be used, and a drive which brings about the appropriate relative movement between the container 2 and the insulating plate on which the resistance material is to be applied. As a rule, the arrangement will always be such that the carrier of the insulating plate 3 and the guide 15 are fixed together or move, while the container 2 is driven by itself or stands still.

   The application device described can be used for the application of layers of various compositions. In particular, the material accommodated in the container 2 does not have to be a resistance mass in the narrower sense, but it can also be a material with a very low resistance value, possibly even a metallic suspension. The device according to the invention can therefore also be used to apply the end contacts of a visual resistor or other metallic parts which are intended to influence the resistance curves.
