<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for dust-free viewing of plates with colloidal liquid for photographic purposes.
When coating plates with colloidal liquid for photographic purposes, it is of great importance to ensure that the coating remains completely dust-free and free of other foreign components, because these can have a very disruptive effect during the production of the photographic copies or the printing plates.
For this reason, the coating has already been carried out in an airtight housing. But that is not enough to fully achieve the goal. Rather, when it comes to the application of photosensitive colloid layers or the like, care must also be taken to ensure that no encrusted particles of the colloidal mass are stuck on the plates to be coated.
To achieve this aim, according to the invention, the arrangement is such that the distance between the plate-like base of the plate to be coated and the inner wall of the coating housing is such that no liquid is thrown against it when it is spun. Because such particles of the colloidal liquid would quickly encrust on the inner wall of the housing under the effect of the increased temperature prevailing in the housing, and these encrusted parts could then, in particular under the action of the air flow normally directed through the housing during the coating, onto the to be coated Plate.
In order to prevent such incrustations from settling on the bottom of the centrifugal housing and being able to have a disruptive effect in the specified manner, according to the invention the bottom of the housing can be covered with water or another liquid suitable for holding back impurities. Although it is already known to arrange a layer of water above the bottom of the housing when the centrifuge housing is open; but since the housing was open, the water could not have the desired effect because dust could at any time come from the upper opening of the housing to the plate to be coated. In fact, with the arrangement of the water at the bottom of the open container, only a cooling effect was intended in the known arrangement.
The base for the plate to be coated expediently does not have a larger circumference than the plate to be coated itself, in order to prevent encrusted coating liquid from adhering to its edge.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the device is illustrated, u. Between. Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of the device in a side view and partial section with the lid open, Fig. 2 shows a side view of the lid itself.
The centrifugal housing a is sealed airtight on all sides by the cover b with sealing ring c. A number of closed heating tubes d are arranged in segments on the underside of the cover b. Instead of these heating pipes, heating boxes, electric heating elements or the like can also be provided. The base for the plate to be coated is labeled 1. The proportions of the base f to the clear diameter of the housing a are now chosen so that the edge h of the base / has a sufficient distance from the inner surface i of the centrifugal box a from the point of view explained at the beginning of avoiding incrustations.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
If particularly large plates are to be coated, for which the base / is too small, in order to create a sufficiently large flat support surface, a larger, relatively thin, strong plate g can first be attached to the base f, which in turn then coating plate carries. However, one must then ensure that a sufficient distance remains between the edge of the plate to be coated and the inner surface i of the centrifuge box a so that no coating liquid thrown off the plate hits the inner surface of the
Housing.
The shaft of the slingshot goes through the bottom of the housing a and is sealed against it. The bottom of the housing a is expediently filled with water in order to retain dust and dirt particles as well as coating liquid which has been thrown off.
An air supply pipe 1 opens into the outer wall i of the housing a, by means of which from a
Blower m her through a filter cleaned air into the housing a can be pressed along a baffle p. o is a separator. At suitable points on the housing a, small openings (not shown in the drawing) are provided through which the air forced in by means of the fan can flow out again. At the same time, the escaping blower air prevents dust particles from entering those openings. If desired, these outlet openings can also be provided with non-return valves.
To rinse out the housing a before the beginning of the treatment with filtered water this z. B. introduced through one or more, not illustrated in the drawing, optionally closable holes or tubes in the cover b of the housing. The coating liquid can then also be introduced through the same closable tubes or openings.
The inner surfaces of both the housing a and the cover b are expediently designed to be completely smooth and for this purpose either made of synthetic material or of bare, rustproof metal or the like.
