Neben diesen angeführten Körpern sind aber noch Verbindungen bekannt, die zwar auch eine reaktionsfähige Methylengruppe tragen, jedoch als Farbstoffzwischenprodukte zur Herstellung von photographischen Farbbildern nicht geeignet sind, da sie als Komponenten bei der ehromogenen Entwicklung oder unter Umständen auch bei der Behandlung mit Diazokörpern keine Farbstoffe liefern. Solche Verbindungen sind beispielsweise das Fluoren, das Benzofluoren, das Inden, das Dihydro- resorein, das Oxythionaphthen, das Diphenylmethan und Zyklohexanon.
Es wurde nun überraschenderweise gefunden, dass sich die Methylengruppe solcher Verbindungen besonders aktivieren lässt, wenn man die Oxalsäureester-Derivate dieser Verbindungen oder ihrer Abkömmlinge herstellt.
