<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Regeneration with sodium hydroxide solution, with swelling, filtered water which has been freed from alkaline earth and alkali ions by previous filtration over a cation exchanger and which contains 60 mg of chlorine ions and 230 mg of sulfate ions per liter in the form of the free acids. At a load of 25 liters per hour and liter of material, 80 liters of water are freed from the anions. This corresponds to a capacity of 18% of its own weight, converted to the equivalent amount of CaO.
By alkalis, e.g. B. 4% sodium hydroxide solution, the resin is regenerated and usable again for adsorption.
The resin is able to a large extent to split neutral salts, u. to a greater extent than known resins. If an nj4 saline solution is filtered over the above resin regenerated with sodium hydroxide solution, the resin is loaded with 13% of its dry weight in chlorine ions. The corresponding amount of free alkali can be titrated in the filtrate.
When nj4 sodium sulfate solution is filtered over the regenerated resin, the amount of SO adsorbed is 27% of the dry weight of the resin.
Furthermore, the resin from a 10% copper sulphate solution is able to adsorb the copper, see below between the copper apparently as an amine complex and the sulphate with salt formation. In this case, regeneration is achieved simply by filtering over a concentrated ammonia solution.
The capacity, based on the dry resin, is 6'35% Cu.
Example 2: After pretreatment with sodium hydroxide solution, an ammoniacal copper solution with 160 mg Cuj1 and 600 mg NHg / l is filtered through a resin, made from ethyleneimine and methylene chloride in alcoholic solution. The copper is selectively adsorbed while the ammonia is found in the filtrate. The resin adsorbs 3-4% of its dry weight on copper and can be regenerated with concentrated ammonia.
Example 3: After regeneration with sodium hydroxide solution, water, as already mentioned in Example 1, is filtered through a resin made from m-phenylenediamine, polyethyleneimine and formaldehyde. With a load of 5 l per hour and per liter of material, 100 to 120 l of this water are completely freed from the anions, which corresponds to a capacity of 4'2 percent by weight, calculated on the equivalent amount of calcium oxide. In the filtrate, Cl 'cannot be detected with either Chlorbarium SÜd "or with silver nitrate.
Example 4: Over 40 cm3 of a resin with a grain size of 0.5 to 2, made up of polyethyleneimine and methylene chloride, is filtered after regeneration with sodium hydroxide solution, 100 cm3 n / 4 saline solution. The filtrate consumes 43'8 cm31 / 10 HCl, while the equivalent amount of hydrochloric acid can be regenerated from the resin using sodium hydroxide solution.
A resin made from m-phenylenediamine is less capable of neutral salt cleavage. Under the same test conditions, only 13,5 cm n / 10 HCl are consumed.
Similar favorable results as in Examples 1 to 4 are obtained when using resins which are prepared from polyethyleneimine, methylene chloride and formalin. The polyhalide can be completely or partially replaced by aldehydes, halogenated ethers or halogenated alkylamines. Resins with an aromatic amine content are particularly resistant.
A number of resins with largely graduated mechanical and adsorption properties are available, which can be adapted to the particular application. When using resins which have been obtained by co-condensation of phenols and polyamines or -imines, one has bodies which are suitable for selective adsorption and, in addition, because of their amphoteric character, excellent buffer filters result.
The production of the resins, which is carried out by methods known per se, can be seen from the following examples.
Example 5: 300 parts by weight of polyethyleneimine are dissolved in 500 parts by weight of ethylene chloride and heated to 300 on a water bath. There is a lively response. When the internal temperature has reached 70 ° C., ice or ice water is used to cool down. It forms a yellowish resin jelly, which is insoluble in water and the known solvents. A firm resin gel is obtained by drying at 80Q.
Example 6: 100 parts by weight of polyethyleneimine are reacted with 166 parts by weight of ethylene chloride at 300. The internal temperature rises. As soon as it has reached 500, 200 parts by weight of formalin (30%) and 20 parts by weight of hydrochloric acid are added with vigorous stirring, whereupon a colorless jelly immediately forms. A solid gel is obtained from it by drying at 800.
Example 7: 30 parts by weight of polyethylene diamine are stirred well with 50 parts by weight of ethylene chloride and heated to about 60%. A dark, solid resin mass forms in about an hour's reaction, which is dried at about 800.
Example 8: 150 parts by weight of a 7% strength aqueous ethyleneimine solution are reacted with 10 parts by weight of ss, ss'-dichlorodiethylamine with strong external cooling, the internal temperature not exceeding +20. The result is a thick syrup which, by adding 100 parts by weight of 30% formalin, is converted into a light-colored jelly, which through
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Drying at 80 turns into solid resin that is insoluble in water and common organic solvents.
EXAMPLE 9 100 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol are added to 50 parts by weight of 7'4% strength aqueous ethyleneimine solution, whereupon methylene chloride is allowed to flow in slowly while cooling with ice.
The internal temperature rises to about 50 and a syrupy solution is formed, which is concentrated by 50 parts by weight of 30% formalin and 10 parts by weight. Hydrochloric acid is converted into a brown jelly, which after drying provides a gummy resin. It is also insoluble in water and organic solvents.
Example 10: 500 parts by weight of m-phenylenediamine are dissolved in 325 parts by weight of water and 320 parts by weight of hydrochloric acid with the addition of 170 parts by weight of ice. To this are added 450 parts by weight of 30% strength formalin solution, 240 parts by weight of ice and 300 parts by weight of water, resulting in a dark brown syrupy solution. This is mixed immediately with a solution of 100 parts by weight of polyethyleneimine in 200 parts by weight of water, which by conc. Hydrochloric acid was also made acidic. Adding a further 510 parts by weight of 30% formalin results in a dark brown jelly which, after drying, produces a hard resin. This gel is insoluble in water, acids and alkalis as well as common organic solvents.
Example 11: If, instead of the polyethyleneimine according to Example 10, a precondensed polyethyleneimine is used, which was prepared by reacting 50 parts by weight of polyethyleneimine in 100 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol with 150 parts by weight of ethylene chloride, a dark brown jelly is also obtained, which after drying turns into a gel with similar properties how that of the resin obtainable according to Example 10 passes over.
Example 12 If the m-phenylenediamine according to Example 10 is replaced by aniline, light-colored resins with solubility properties similar to those of the resin shown according to Example 10 are obtained.
EXAMPLE 13 150 parts by weight of polyethyleneimine are reacted at 350 with 50 parts by weight of 4 ', 6'-dichloro-1,3, 4, 6-tetramethylbenzene dissolved in 50 parts by weight of xylene. A transparent resin mass forms, which, when dried at 800, provides a solid resin with valuable exchange properties.
Example 14: To 1000 parts by weight of a solution prepared by condensation of 2.5 parts by weight of m-phenylenediamine in 45 parts by weight of water and 2.1 parts by weight of 32% HCl with 2.4 parts by weight of 30% formalin are mixed with 50 parts by weight of polyethylenediamine in 85 parts by volume of 32% HCl and 75 parts by weight of water are added. For this purpose, 330 parts by weight of 30% formalin are then added quickly and with thorough stirring. After a few minutes, the mass solidifies under low heating to a solid resin, which is post-cured at 800. The resin has a good ability to adsorb anions.
