Process for the production of agents for improving the wet fastness properties of directly dyed
Cellulose fibers
It is Z. B. from British Patent No. 576562 and American Patent No. 2214067 it is known that the condensation of dicyandiamide with formaldehyde leads to products which are able to improve the wet fastness properties of direct dyeings. However, these condensation products have the disadvantage that they are very sticky in liquid form and tend to stick together in solid form due to their hygroscopicity, which makes their use difficult; they are also not resistant to sulfate ions.

It has now been found that by post-condensing these dicyandiamide-formaldehyde condensation products with ammonium salts of mineral acids and further condensation with formaldehyde, non-hygroscopic products of high effectiveness and resistance to sulfate ions are obtained. If, on the other hand, dicyandiamide alone, instead of the dicyandiamide-formaldehyde condensation product, is reacted with ammonium salts and then condensed with formaldehyde, hygroscopic products are obtained which are precipitated by sulfate ions.
 EMI1.1
Boiled reflux, added 54 parts of ammonium chloride, boiled for a further 4 hours and finally condensed with 200-300 parts of formaldehyde (30%) in 4 hours at 80.

After evaporation, a non-hygroscopic resin is obtained. 0-3 of this product per liter of treatment liquor make directly dyed cellulose fibers waterfast and significantly improve the wash fastness.

The proportions of this example can be varied; B. the amount of formaldehyde used in the first condensation can be increased to 1-5 times or more. If, instead of ammonium chloride, another inorganic ammonium salt such as ammonium sulfate or phosphate is used, products with similar properties are obtained.
