In manchen Fällen, z.

Rock drill bit with curved multi-tooth cutting edge
In rock drilling operations, multi-tooth drill bits with a curved cutting edge are often used, which are made entirely of steel for medium-hard rock types and for harder and very hard ones
Rock types are equipped with brazed hard metal cutting edges.

Such drill bits are resharpened by grinding either free-hand or by means of more or less complicated grinding devices.

The flanks of the cutting edges of such drill bits have hitherto been designed as parts of conical surfaces, the rectilinear generatrices of which are perpendicular to the cutting edge and whose conical axis is perpendicular to the crown axis. Conical surfaces can only be found in a simple manner with
Edit rotation around the cone axis. The
Regrinding of the cutting edge flanks when rotating around the cone axis is available for multi-toothed ones
Drill cutting the circumstance preventing in
Ways that the conical surfaces through others
Cutting teeth are interrupted so that these teeth would be ground away when rotating about the cone axis. One is therefore forced to enable the
To design cutting edges as conical surfaces, the generatrix of which is no longer perpendicular to
The cutting edge and its cone axis are no longer perpendicular to the crown axis.

By choosing such cutting edges, however, the desired radius of curvature of the
The cutting edge and the desired cutting angle are no longer adhered to. The radius of curvature becomes larger, the cutting edge flatter and the cutting angle on the circumference of the crown more acute and more blunt towards the center of the crown than desired.

To multi-tooth core bits with domed
To be able to machine and regrind the cutting edge in a simple manner while maintaining a certain favorable cutting edge angle and certain favorable cutting edge curvature radius, according to the invention the cutting edges in such drill bits are designed as parts of spherical surfaces with a certain ball diameter and a certain position of the center of the sphere. The spherical surfaces can also only approximately be formed as such.

In the drawing, such a drill bit, which is designed, for example, as a four-tooth cutting edge (cross cutting edge), is shown in elevation in FIG. 1 and in plan view in FIG. 2.

In order to make the design of the cutting flanks as spherical surfaces stand out more clearly in the drawing, the limits of the drill bits are shown with strong lines and the representation of the cutting edges by means of weaker solid lines down to the plane from the centers of the spheres c, d, e and f extended.

Since any intersection through a spherical surface results in a circular line, this is also the
Line of intersection g-h-i of the spherical surface g-k-i with the center f and the spherical surface with the spherical center d a circular line with the radius r. So the cutting edge m-h-n as a part of this cutting line is also an arc of a circle with the radius r.

Likewise, the line of intersection o-u-h of the spherical surface o-q-s with the center o and the
Spherical surface o-i-s with the center d a circular line. The notch line u-h between the flanks u-h-m and u-h-v is therefore also a circular line with the radius o-t.

Thereafter, the flanks of two adjacent cutting teeth can be produced in a simple manner by means of a tool or a grinding wheel with the profile x-o-z with a relative rotation of the profile about the axis d-t-e with respect to the drill bit. For each selected curvature radius r, the profile radius R as a spherical radius, the position of the ball centers and thus the position of the axes of rotation of the profile, can be precisely determined with the help of simple geometric relationships, regardless of whether the crown has 3, 4, 5, 6 or more cutting teeth, the cutting teeth have a uniform or uneven pitch, are arranged radially or at an angle to the crown axis.

In some cases, e.g. B. with asymmetrical crowns, it is cheaper to grind each notch flank separately instead of with a profile wheel, which can grind the entire notch profile in one pass. In Fig. 2, the profile p-n of such a grinding wheel is shown at the bottom right.
