Process for the manufacture of flexible pipes
There are known pipes made of polyvinyl chloride. Such pipes are stiff and practically impossible to bend in the cold.
It has now been found that flexible tubes can be produced from one or more helically wound tapes, corrugated in the direction of the winding axis by compression and welded by heat, by using tapes made of paper, textile fiber, metal foils, cell glass or other plastics are processed as intermediate layers of tapes made of polyvinyl chloride, which are provided on one or both sides with a known heat seal layer.
Polyvinyl chloride, on which a heat-sealing layer is applied, is particularly suitable for this processing, because it is very easily accessible to the mechanical processing in question here and because, thanks to the heat-sealing layer, in the subsequent thermal post-treatment at temperatures between 60 and 1200 C, for example, which causes the solidification and the bond of the pipe, connects particularly quickly and evenly with the adjacent winding layers.
A tape material suitable for practicing this method consists, for example, of a 10-50, preferably 20 mm wide strip of plasticizer-free polyvinyl chloride 0.02 to 0.1, preferably 0.04 mm thick, which is coated on one or both sides with a heat-sealing layer of mixed acrylic acid ester polymers and / or copolymers of vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride is coated. For example, the following materials may be mentioned as the material for the hot-seal layer: ethyl polyacrylate, n-butyl polyacrylate, copolymers of vinyl chloride / vinyl acetate, copolymers of vinyl chloride / vinyl acetate / maleic acid or derivatives of maleic acid, copolymers of vinyl chloride / vinyl isobutyl ether and polyvinylidene chloride.
The flexible pipes produced by the process according to the invention, the diameter and wall thickness of which can vary widely, are suitable for numerous purposes due to their good cohesion, their strength and their great flexibility, for. B. as connecting elements for compressed air lines, as vacuum cleaner hoses, etc.
PATENT CLAIMS: l. Process for the production of flexible tubes from helically wound tapes, grooved in the direction of the winding axis by compression and heat-welded, characterized in that the tape material used is at least partially polyvinyl chloride, which is provided on one or both sides with a known heat-sealing layer.
