60 Teile, Almadinagummi 20 Teile, Harzöl (raffiniertes) 10 Teile, Karnaubawachs 10 Teile.

VINCENT BRYDEN WRIGHT IN GRESFORD (COUNTY DENBIGHSHIRE, NORTII WALES),
WATER YEGG POULSOM
AND WILLIAM MACDONALD MACKINTOSH IN LIVERPOOL.

Compound for waterproofing all types of textile.

The present invention relates to the waterproofing of textile or other fabrics, thread, cords, strings, ropes, braids and its main purpose is to accelerate waterproofing and to achieve that the waterproofing fabrics are elastic and odorless; they should also remain intact, even if they have been folded up when wet or for a long time, or even if they have themselves been handled carelessly.

A substance is added to the base material of the mass, namely paraffin, which makes the waterproofed fabric able to withstand heavy loads and which gives the waterproof coating elasticity; the gum known commercially as Almadina or Alsadina gum, which comes from a species of the genus Euphorbia or Tragia and occurs on the coast of Portuguese West Africa, is capable of imparting these properties.

In order to combine all the constituents of the mass, resin oil (purified) is added to the same. This substance does not disturb the elasticity, but increases it and so that the mass does not stick, carnauba wax is also added. With this addition, the fabric can be made waterproof in an uninterrupted manner and it can then be touched, rolled up, stored or used immediately without having to dry it or otherwise treat it.

The individual constituents of the mass become, especially when the tissue is stronger
Should be exposed to stress, applied in the following ratio: paraffin
60 parts, almadina gum 20 parts, rosin oil (refined) 10 parts, carnauba wax 10 parts.

Vas paraffin and the almadina gum are heated to around 2050 C, the latter dissolving in them. Then 10 parts of carnauba wax and 10 parts of (purified) resin oil are added to the mass and the whole is kept at about 2050 ° C. and mixed thoroughly for so long. until a completely homogeneous mixture is achieved.

To obtain a sticky, waterproof fabric, e.g. B. strips for covering electrical Loitungswires, the carnauba wax is omitted. If you leave that
Carnauba wax away and if the amount of resin oil added is reduced to about r) parts, a completely dry, waterproof fabric is achieved, which for many
Purposes where it is not exposed to heavy use and aggressive treatment is completely sufficient.
 EMI1.2
Amount of a mineral substance, namely about 30 parts of finely powdered asbestos.

The above composition can be used in conjunction with: rosin oil (refined, about 27 parts), 'linseed' oil or a similar vegetable oil (about 63 parts) and anhydrous calcium carbonate; this mixture is produced by heating the linseed oil and the anhydrous calcium carbonate or another carbonate with the same effect to a temperature of 2200 C and mixing them; The refined resin oil is then added to the mixture, while it is still hot, the addition being made immediately after the lime has acted on the oil.

The mass is then added in the same proportion to the mixture given earlier and mixed with it while it is warm - and is in Hitssiger form; in this way a mixture is obtained which is well suited for waterproofing. In some cases, when the waterproof coating is not subjected to any sharp stress or folding or bending, the latter mixture can be used alone.

The impregnation mixture is free of those components that attack the fibers of the material; it is also of such a nature that the fabric fibers are saturated through and through so that no moisture can enter.

Paints or dyes, as well as lacquers and pitch, can be added to the impregnation mixture to produce black, waterproof coatings; the mixture binds the colors so that they are not rubbed off.
