Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen Kugelschreiber, dessen Tintenbehälter mit einem Kolben aus- gestattet ist, der an die Tintensäule an ihrem von der Schreibkugel abgewendeten Ende anschliesst und nach Massgabe des Verbrauches der Tintensäule nachfolgt. Bei solchen Kugelschreibern verwendet man einen Kolben, der ein von dem der Tinte nicht merklich abweichendes, scheinbares spezifisches Gewicht hat und mit den Wänden des Tintenbehälters einen engen Gleitsitz bildet, um zu erreichen, dass der Kolben auf der Tinte schwimmt und keine nennenswerte Neigung besitzt, in einer beliebigen Stellung des Gerätes innerhalb des Behälters zu sinken oder aufzusteigen.
Unter dem scheinbaren spezifischen Gewicht des Kolbens soll der Quotient aus dem tatsächlichen Kolbengewicht (ermittelt in Luft) und dem Volumen der vom Kolben beim Eintauchen bis zu seinem Rand verdrängten Tinte verstanden sein.
Die erwähnte Forderung für das scheinbare spezifische Gewicht des Kolbens schafft Bedingungen bei der Wahl des Materials für die Fertigung des Kolbens. unter Umständen auch Bedingungen hinsichtlich der Form des Kolbens, die in vielen Fällen nicht erwünscht sind.
Hier setzt die Erfindung ein, die im wesentlichen darin besteht, dass im Spalt zwischen dem Kolben und der Wand des Tintenbehälters eine Schicht aus einem fliessfähigen Stoff mit plastischen und/oder elastischen Eigenschaften vorgesehen ist, der z. B. aus einer kolloidalen Lösung von Metallseifen oder von einem Kunstharz, gebildet sein kann.
Es hat sich gezeigt, dass ein solcher Film die Kolbenbewegungen weitgehend dämpft, so dass die Einhaltung der erwähntenAngleichung des scheinbaren spezifischen Gewichtes des Kolbens an das spezifische Gewicht der Tinte keine oder eine wesentlich geringere Rolle spielt.
Der rohrförmige Tintenbehälter, der an seinem unteren Ende zur Aufnahme der Schreibspitze eingerichtet ist, die den Sitz zur Aufnahme der Schreibkugel enthält, wird von seinem andern Ende aus mit viskoser Tinte gefüllt. Dann wird auf den Tintenspiegel eine Schicht des erwähnten fliessfähigen Stoffes aufgebracht. Das Ende des Tintenbehälters ist bei Gebrauch des Gerätes mit einem eingeschraubten Pfropfen verschlossen.

In such ballpoint pens, a piston is used which has an apparent specific gravity that does not noticeably differ from that of the ink and which forms a tight sliding fit with the walls of the ink container in order to ensure that the piston floats on the ink and has no significant inclination, to sink or rise in any position of the device within the container.
The apparent specific weight of the piston should be understood as the quotient of the actual piston weight (determined in air) and the volume of the ink displaced by the piston to its edge when it is immersed.
The mentioned requirement for the apparent specific weight of the piston creates conditions for the selection of the material for the manufacture of the piston. possibly also conditions with regard to the shape of the piston which are not desirable in many cases.
This is where the invention comes in, which essentially consists in the fact that a layer of a flowable substance with plastic and / or elastic properties is provided in the gap between the piston and the wall of the ink container, which z. B. from a colloidal solution of metal soaps or from a synthetic resin.
It has been found that such a film largely dampens the piston movements, so that compliance with the mentioned adjustment of the apparent specific weight of the piston to the specific weight of the ink plays no role or a significantly smaller role.
The tubular ink container, which is set up at its lower end to receive the writing tip which contains the seat for receiving the writing ball, is filled with viscous ink from its other end. Then a layer of the aforementioned flowable substance is applied to the ink level. The end of the ink container is closed with a screwed plug when the device is in use.
