Process for the production of a composite material, preferably for plain bearings
It is known to use alloys based on aluminum as bearing alloys. To improve the inherently poor emergency running properties of pure aluminum, tin is added to it as the main alloy component. Alloys with tin contents of 5 to 50 "/ o have been proposed. Two groups of these high-tin alloys have mainly proven themselves in practice

required, such alloys receive various additives whose strength-increasing properties are generally known in aluminum, for example copper, silicon, magnesium, zinc, manganese and iron.

However, the strength of aluminum alloy governments is usually not sufficient to produce the entire bearing body from this alloy. As with white metals, the known route has therefore been taken to apply the bearing metal to support shells made of a stronger material, for example steel. While it is well known, however, that steel support shells are poured with the white metal, this process has only been successful in isolated cases with aluminum bearings. When the molten aluminum comes into contact with the steel, a brittle aluminum-iron compound forms, which becomes noticeable as a disruptive intermediate layer during further processing. In addition, the running properties of the bearing are adversely affected by stored aluminum oxides.

According to the current state of the art, it seems most advantageous if the aluminum alloy is rolled onto the steel sheet. Bearings of various shapes are then made from the aluminum alloy steel composite sheets obtained in this way.

Because of the known tendency of aluminum to oxidize, especially at elevated temperatures, it is difficult to achieve a good bond or even a weld between the two materials, so that there is a risk that the bearing metal layer will become in operation or even during the Manufacture of the bearing completely or partially detached from the steel support shell. Various methods have therefore been proposed which have come close to solving the problem. However, since aluminum bearing alloys with tin contents above 50b are relatively soft, they are difficult to roll together (clad) with the steel. A large part of the tin would be squeezed out if the running layer made of the aluminum tin alloy was rolled on directly. If the specific rolling pressure is low, however, only an insufficient bond is achieved.

However, a good bond can only be achieved if soft steel is clad with the previously cold-rolled bearing alloy, so that the steel is also deformed at the same time. However, this procedure requires special operational precautionary measures, so that it is only used to a very limited extent in practice.

More successful are those processes in which the steel first receives a thin intermediate layer of an aluminum-based alloy which is inherently much harder or can be rolled harder than the aluminum bearing alloy and which contains no tin or only small amounts of tin. The aluminum bearing alloy is then applied with a significantly lower rolling pressure. It has been shown that the bearing alloy adheres well to the foreign pure aluminum or aluminum alloy intermediate layer, provided that care has been taken that the aluminum cladding layer does not oxidize during the rolling and heat treatment processes. That is why it is
