Process for preparing aluminum and aluminum alloys for soft soldering
The invention relates to a method for preparing aluminum and alloys containing silicon and magnesium for soft soldering by applying a solderable zinc-tin intermediate layer.
It is already known to tin-plate aluminum by means of ultrasound in order to be able to solder aluminum with tin solder in this way. It is also known to solder aluminum by means of induction heating or resistance heating. There are also various special methods using special plumb bobs. However, all of these methods require considerable effort, such as. B. ultrasonic soldering or elevated temperatures and special alloys, which sometimes cause considerable difficulties when normal soft soldering and aluminum soldering come together in one operation.
The object of the invention is to create a method for preparing for the soft soldering of aluminum and aluminum alloys which avoids the disadvantages mentioned and which ensures perfect soldering without considerable effort and can limit the pretreatment of the aluminum piece to be soldered to the point to be soldered.
According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the areas to be soldered are pickled in an oily sodium hydroxide solution and then coated with the intermediate layer mentioned by treatment in an aqueous alkaline zinc-tin bath and subsequent rinsing with water.
Further features of the invention are that the zinc-tin layer is applied in the dipping process and the possibility of limited application by brushing or spraying and the like. Like. Is given.
The aluminum parts are pickled in an oily sodium hydroxide solution and then again immersed in an aqueous alkaline zinc-tin bath. This bath consists of an aqueous solution of zinc-tin with caustic soda. Zinc-tin is kept in solution by an excess of sodium hydroxide solution. However, zinc-tin precipitate due to the different potentials on the aluminum surface and aluminum dissolves. This results in a perfect zinc-tin layer on the aluminum or aluminum alloy.
Subsequently, the parts treated in this way must be rinsed thoroughly with water. To protect the upper

solution to prevent oxidation.
The same method can also be used by brush application, whereby the coating is limited to individual desired parts.
