Fig. 4 bringt die erfindungsgemässe Vorrich- tung in vergrössertem Massstab.

Device for adjusting the stitch length in sewing machines
Sewing machines are known in the trade which are equipped with embroidery templates that can be exchanged or that are combined into a package. With the help of these templates, the automatic execution of embroidery is possible, whereby the adjustment of the stitch length and the reversal of the stitch direction from forwards to backwards are controlled by such a template, among other things. betw. by means of a,; Tactile finger that engages in the template.
When the sewing machine end reader has been switched over to automatic work, the stitch length is adjusted or set by means of a manually operated button that is activated during the automatic

ter button is provided, which is also operated by hand and engages in the mechanism of the machine in such a way that different patterns can be embroidered with one and the same template.
The subject matter of the invention is a device for adjusting the stitch length, in which the stitch length can be regulated both in automatic and in non-automatic operation by means of a single button which works with a disc having a recess into which a roller engages by the force of the spring presses against the recess via an oscillating fork that is rotatable on the axis, the pressure simultaneously being applied to an axially displaceable lever by a lever rotatable around the axis at the other end of the oscillating fork and connected to a grid in a torsionally rigid manner
Spindle is passed on, which is connected to the control shaft for the feed via a worm wheel and which in turn exerts a pressure against the button by a helical spring pushed onto the control shaft.
A device is thus created in which the button that is operated during non-automatic operation also engages in the automatic mechanism of the machine, so that different patterns can be embroidered with one and the same template, depending on the position of this button, while on the other hand a lever is provided with which the stitch direction can be reversed.
With the present invention, the mechanism of the machine is also easy to overlook, easy to operate and has the greatest operational reliability and duration, the device being inexpensive to manufacture and giving the machine a nicer appearance. In the following description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, both of which - description and drawings - only reproduce exemplary embodiments, one of the many possible practical implementation options is shown. FIG. 1 shows, partially in partial cross-section, a front view and FIG. 1 shows a plan view of a mowing machine which is equipped with the device according to the invention. Fig. 3 gives a detail of Fig. 2, u. betw. the rotary knob to adjust the stitch length again.
4 shows the device according to the invention on an enlarged scale. FIG. 5 is a vertical cross section taken along line A-A of FIG. 4.
As can be seen from the drawings, 1 denotes the support column of the sewing machine, with
2 the base plate and with 3 the cam disk, which (in automatic sewing mode) controls the stitch length and the reversal of the stitch direction from forwards to backwards. This cam disk 3 rotated by the shaft 4 sets the sensing bracket 5 resting on its circumference and thus its bearing pin 6 in reciprocating oscillations. The sensing bracket 5 merges beyond its pivot point into the extension curve 8 and also has a lateral extension 7. This is used for input and
Switching off the automatic feed.
For this purpose there is an eccentric piece rotatable about the pin 10 under this extension 7. The pin 10 rotates in a position attached to the machine housing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
brought sleeve and goes outside the housing into a manually operated rotary knob which protrudes from the housing and is not shown here.
In FIG. 1, the position of the eccentric 9 corresponds to the operating position in which the automatic operation is switched off, ie. H. the extension piece 7 rests on the eccentric 9 and the sensing bracket 5 is slightly lifted from the largest diameter of the cam disk. The bow piece 8, however, lies on one
Lever 11 on (Fig. 5), which is connected to the shaft 12. This shaft is provided with a button 13 at one end, so that the lever 11, the shaft 12 and the button 13 form a solid whole.
The shaft 12 is rotatably mounted in the two brackets 14. These tabs 14 together form one
Fork 15, which in turn is rotatably mounted on pin 16. A pin 41 holds the pin 16 firmly in the bearing sleeve 17 of the bearing block 18. This is in turn with the screws 19 on the support column 1 of
Sewing machine attached. The fork 15 has an inclined lever arm 20, which at its end point
Roll 21 carries. This engages in a correspondingly designed recess in the disk 24. This disk is driven onto the pin 25, which rotates in the bearing 26 of the bearing block 18. The inner and outer circumferential surface of the recess of the disc 24 controls the roller 21 and is designed in such a way that the entire control path of the feed is passed through by turning this disc.
More precisely, the inner circumference 22 of this recess covers the entire controlled system for the forward stitch, while the outer circumference 23 covers the controlled system for the backward stitch.
With automatic operation of the machine, with zigzag seams or with straight forward seams, this becomes
Rolls 21 pressed against the inner peripheral surface 22 of the recess of the disc 24, u. between one
Tension spring 27, which hangs at one end with a spring eye on the pin 28 (this is fixedly attached to the fork 15) and the other spring eye hangs on the mandrel 29 protruding from the bearing block 18.
The feeler lever 13 acts on the free end of a vertical spindle 30, which is in the two bearings
31 can slide up and down and thereby, by means of the toothed rack 32 attached to it, the toothed wheel
33 turns. In this way, the vertical displacements of the spindle 30 are converted into angular movements of the feed shaft 34 and this is applied by means of known transmission elements, the
Feed handle.
A helical torsion spring 35 is drawn onto the shaft 34, which is connected to this shaft at one end and is fastened to the extension piece 36 of the machine base plate 2 at the other end by means of the screw 37. This spring 35 serves to constantly press the spindle 30 upwards, that is to say against the feeler lever 13 and thus to keep the lever 11 and the bow section 8 constantly in engagement with one another.
A graduated rotary knob 38 is firmly pulled onto the shaft 25 and is used to set the feed width. This button protrudes from the machine housing and its graduation rotates past a fixed comparison point on the housing, namely point 39. From all this, the mode of operation of the device according to the invention is easy to understand.
During the automatic operation of the machine, the eccentric piece 9 is turned off from the mandrel 7 of the scanner so that the feeler bar 5 is released and lies against the circumferential surface of the cam disk 3. The contact pressure comes from the spindle 30 pushing upwards. This presses against the feeler lever 13 and the latter presses against the curved piece 8 through the lever 11. The rotary knob 38 is therefore set to a certain degree setting so that the disc 24 assumes a certain position. The angular position of the inclined lever is then dependent on the position of this disk
20 on the pivot 16, u. zw. By the engagement of the spring 27, which the roller 21 constantly against the
Recess 22 of the disc 24 presses.
The rotates at the same angle as the lever 20
Fork 15 and thus the feeler lever 13 and with it the spindle 30 move up or down.
This in turn moves the control shaft 34 by a certain angle of rotation.
When the machine is working in this operating position, the stitch length is composed of the stitch set by the rotary knob 38 (a stitch setting of 0 to 4 mm is provided in Fig. 3) and also of the change values that result from the angular movements of the feeler lever 5 about the fulcrum 6 due to the radial change nipples of the rotating cam disk.
The various moving parts of the device described here are dimensioned such that the stitch length maintained by the machine corresponds to the setting of the rotary knob 38 as long as the feeler bar 5
EMI2.1
the largest radius that has been produced, u. between an amount that can be determined in advance, e.g. B. by 2 mm. All other support positions of the feeler bar 5 on the cam disk 3, i.e. between the largest and smallest radius, then of course always correspond to negative stitch length changes between 0 and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
be able to carry out differently shaped and dimensioned embroidery work for the feed, simply by moving the adjusting knob 38 into its various intended positions.
On the other hand, if the machine is set to non-automatic operation and therefore the
Cam disk 3 is switched off by the stop of the mandrel 7 against the eccentric piece 9, then you can set and adjust the stitch length as before with the rotary knob 38 and also with the lever
40, which is fastened to the fork 15 and protrudes from the housing column 1 through a slot, reverse the sewing direction. If the lever 40 is pressed down, the inclined arm 20 and thus the fork 15 are rotated around the shaft journal 16 by a certain angle until the roller 20 lies against the outer circumferential surface of the recess in the disk 24.
Thanks to the special design of the two cam surfaces 22 and 23, the angular movement of the inclined arm 20 (by depressing the lever 40) causes the feed to be reversed while maintaining the stitch length, as indicated on the adjusting knob 38. So only the stitch direction changes, not the stitch length.
After releasing the lever 40, the spring 27 pulls the mechanism back into the previous position.
EMI3.2
The device described here can be modified in detail without thereby departing from the scope and practical meaning of the invention as such.
