In erster Linie kommen Pilze, z.

Fungicidal, bactericidal and algicidal agent
Zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate is a good fungicide and bactericide. In addition, the fungicidal, bactericidal and algicidal effectiveness of phenyl mercury compounds is known.
It has now been found that by combining zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate with phenyl mercury compounds, agents are obtained whose effectiveness goes far beyond the additional effect of the components. A considerable increase in effectiveness can be achieved even by adding small amounts, which are in themselves insufficient, of one component to the other. It has proven to be expedient to use 0.01-0.5 parts of the phenyl mercury compound for 1 part of zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate.
In addition to the effect of increasing the effect, the agent according to the invention has a much greater range of application than the individual components. Furthermore, it was surprisingly found that adding zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate to phenyl mercury compounds completely eliminates the unpleasant property of the latter, which is often yellow in emulsion paints.
The agent according to the invention is very stable in an alkaline medium. For this reason, there may be advantages such. B. have against tetramethylthiuram disulfide-containing active ingredient combinations.
Phenylmercury hydroxide and its salts with inorganic and organic acids and with phenols are suitable as phenylmercuric compounds, e.g. B. Phenyl mercury chloride, phenyl mercury borate, phenyl mercury nitrate, phenyl mercury acetate, phenyl mercury oleate and phenyl mercury - 8 - hydroxyquinoline.
The fungicidal effectiveness of the agent was determined in comparison with the components using the following test method:
The substance to be tested is coated in various concentrations in a coating material that is easily susceptible to fungal attack, e.g. B. PVA or latex emulsion paint, evenly incorporated and made of these spreads on filter paper. After drying for at least 24 hours at room temperature, the filters were placed on nutrient media of malt agar to which a spore suspension of the test organism had previously been applied. A drop of spore suspension is also placed on the layer of paint that is on top. The samples are then stored in closed Petri dishes at a temperature of 28 C for at least 28 days.
The humidity is over 900/0. Aspergillus niger and Penicillium glaucum are used as test organisms. a) 0.5% zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate is added to a PVA emulsion paint and tested for mold resistance in the manner described above. The filter is partly overgrown. b) 0.150/0 phenyl mercury chloride is added to a PVA emulsion paint; in the mold test, the filter is overgrown by Penicillium glaucum. c) 0.150/0 phenylmercuric chloride and 0.5% zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate are added to a PVA emulsion paint. The filter remains completely free of fouling in the mold test and shows a strong inhibition zone.
The considerably increased effectiveness of the active ingredient combination according to the invention is shown in the results of the fungicidal test with a sharp reduction in the active ingredient concentrations.
