Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Schmiermittel

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

B., Na-Seifen-Metallhydroxyd-Komplexfette bzw.

  lubricant
The invention relates to lubricants based on synthetic and mineral oils and is characterized by a content of metal hydroxide complex soaps, in which metal hydroxides, preferably from metals of groups II to IV of the periodic table, are complexly bound to a metal soap molecule, the cation the complex-bound metal hydroxide must be different from that of the soap.

   The complex binding of the metal hydroxides in the soap molecule occurs through the interaction of the
Carboxylate group of the soap molecule and the OH group of the metal hydroxides with the formation of hydrogen bonds.

   The penetration of the metal hydroxides into the soap lattice takes place from the slip plane between the carboxylate ends and is only possible with mesomorphic phase transformations of the soap into the liquid-crystalline state. The complex compounds described are therefore only within such
Temperature intervals and not mechanically achievable at temperatures below these phase transformations. On the other hand, if the production temperatures are too high, there is no longer any formation of a soap-metal hydroxide complex, but rather the chain cleavage of the soap anion and the resulting formation of low molecular weight fatty acids neutralize the
Metal hydroxide, so that in the end a mixture of soaps with different cations is created.

   This means that the formation of soap-metal hydroxide complexes is only possible within phase transition temperatures of the soap that are below about 150 ° C but above about 1050 ° C. Below the limit, only a mechanical mixing of the individual partners is possible without the changes in the quality characteristics observed in the invention occurring.

   It has been found that the complex compounds according to the invention bring about fundamental changes in the properties characteristic of the original compounds, and that for each
Complex metal hydroxide in a specific way the dropping points, the penetration values, the cold behavior, the thermal stability, the behavior towards water, sea water, acids, alkalis, formalin,
Solvent etc., as well as the resistance to oxidation, the anti-corrosive behavior, the consistency - temperature behavior and the mechanical-dynamic lubricating properties on testing machines.

   This opens up great opportunities, especially for the continuous production of lubricating greases, because with a single basic recipe, a predeterminable and targeted far-reaching influence on the desired quality features of the end product can only be exerted by varying the complex-bound metal hydroxides the cation properties of the soap and des
Combine or add complex metal hydroxides favorably.

   A second, very valuable advantage of these complex compounds is that neutral fats with pH 7 can be produced both continuously and discontinuously over any length of time, if the stoichiometric calculation of the soap-metal hydroxide complex is carried out so that a very small part of the complex metal hydroxide is also saponified. This is of paramount importance for the consistency of production and the utility value of lubricating greases. For example, years of driving without incorrect brewing despite the inevitable sources of error due to fluctuations in the neutralization numbers or lye titers or those that always occur in large-scale operations and not

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 avoidable weight differences.

   Completely in contrast to the hitherto customary mixtures of soaps with various cations, in which in the vast majority of cases it is not their positive but rather their negative characteristics that can be combined with simultaneous complex compounds of several metal hydroxides, additions of all desirable properties can be achieved . B., Na soap-metal hydroxide complex fats or

   To produce K-soap metal hydroxide complex greases that combine the following features at the same time: high dropping point, flat consistency temperature behavior, absolute oxidation stability, good
Cold and heat behavior, resistance to water, sea water, tropical climate, acids, alkalis, formalin, excellent corrosion protection effects. perfect behavior in mechanical-dynamic terms, long service life and unlimited shelf life without signs of bleeding.

   From a technological point of view, it is irrelevant for the production of lubricants whether the metal hydroxides, for example Cu (OH) or Zn (OH), are added after the fatty acids have been completely saponified, or whether the saponification is carried out with complex compounds such as aluminates or plumbates , Zincates, manganites, cuprates, etc. similar undertakes. In the latter case, soap-metal hydroxide complex compounds are also formed. Mechanical mixing of metal hydroxide with finished fat, on the other hand, does not lead to complex formation and therefore also does not lead to the technically valuable effects described.

   A few examples are intended to explain the production and properties of the lubricants according to the invention.

   In a manner known per se, molten montanic acid or raffinates of the raw montan wax are added one after the other to the dilute lye, with stirring, and the saponification is carried out. After saponifying, about half of the oil is added and boiled until most of the water has evaporated. The rest of the oil is then added and the mixture is boiled up to a temperature of around 1150C. After the hot filling in iron barrels, it is cooled down and matured, which should take about 1 week. The equalization and homogenization takes place in a known manner by mechanical means.

   Another manufacturing option is that the acid is dissolved in oil and added with alkali in aqueous and / or alcoholic solution or dispersed in oil at over 1000C.

  Post-treatment is carried out in the same way as in the previous example. The soap can also be produced in its pure form and swelled in oil at high temperatures.

The entire amount of montanic acid, calculated stoichiometrically to Na and brought to the same temperature, is then added with stirring. It is then saponified for about 1 hour.

   After this time, 25 kg of Pb (OH) 2 are added and the mixture is boiled for a further hour. Then add about half the amount of oil and cook until most of the water has been removed. Now the remaining amount of oil is added and boiled down to about 1200C. The finished lubricant is drained into iron drums and stored in these for about 1 week to cool and mature. This is followed by further processing as in the previous examples.

   The described modifications of Example 1 can also be used here. The hydroxides are expediently added after the saponification has ended.
