<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for the preparation of new organophosphorus compounds which can be used, for example, for pest control
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of new organophosphorus compounds of the general formula
EMI1.1
in the Rl and! L independently of one another for lower alkyl or. Alkoxy radicals, while X denotes hydrogen, a halogen atom or a lower alkyl group.
It has been found that compounds of the abovementioned general formula (I) can be obtained smoothly and in good yields if compounds of the general formula
EMI1.2
in which R and R have the abovementioned meaning, while Y stands for a halogen atom, with compounds of the general formula
EMI1.3
in which X has the meaning given above.
The compounds of the general formula (II) are used in particular in the form of the corresponding phenates, or the reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of acid-binding agents.
Anhydrous alkali metal carbonates or alcoholates are particularly suitable as acid acceptors. However, it is just as possible to first prepare salts, preferably alkali salts, of the trifluoromethyl mercaptophenols in question and then to implement them further in the context of the process according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The reaction according to the process is preferably carried out using an inert organic solvent. In addition to hydrocarbons, lower aliphatic ketones and nitriles, such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or methyl isopropyl ketone and aceto nitrile or propionitrile, have proven useful for this purpose.
Furthermore, it has proven to be expedient to carry out the process according to the invention at normal or slightly elevated temperature and, after combining the starting components, to stir the reaction mixture with warming for some time to complete the reaction.
The trifluoromethyl mercaptophenols required as starting materials are expediently prepared by introducing trifluoromethylsulfenyl chloride into the corresponding phenols at temperatures between 0 and 200 ° C., preferably at 80-100 ° C., and optionally in the presence of FriedelCrafts' catalysts and inert solvents (cf. the representative examples A, B, C and D).
Compared to the known dialkyl (thiono) phosphorus (-one, -in) acid esters of methyl mercaptophenols, the compounds which can be prepared according to the process are distinguished by a considerably increased insecticidal activity. In view of these surprising, technically valuable properties, the products of the process should be used as pesticides, especially in crop protection.
The preparations are used in the manner customary for pesticides based on phosphoric acid esters; H. preferably in combination with suitable solid or liquid stretching or. Thinners.
EMI2.1
The table below gives an overview of the effectiveness of the products obtainable according to the invention in accordance with preparation examples 1-5.
The determination of the effectiveness is carried out in the usual way. To produce the emulsions used, the active ingredient is dissolved in dimethylformamide and the solution is then diluted with the appropriate amount of water with the addition of an emulsifier. The active ingredient concentrations given in the table relate to the highest dilutions which are still effective.

Yield of pure product in relation to the trifluoromethylsulfenyl chloride used, about 26%.
Example C: 107 g (about 0.63 moles) of about 8 oily trifluoromethylsulfenyl chloride are introduced into 100 g (0.93 moles) of o-cresol at about 80 ° C. The unreacted trifluoromethylsulfenyl chloride is collected in a downstream trap and used again. Further processing takes place as in example A.
