Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Verfahren und Vorrichtung zur Messung des Wachstums von Pflanzen
 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 turgemäss has grown irregularly, the light source 3 is due to the different density de! Leafy plants seen in individual places or in different directions of the plant and, due to their irregular outer shape, when the ring 2 is rotated, a shadow image that changes in outline and brightness is cast on the image surface 5, whereby fluctuations in the current flow occur, which are determined on a measuring device 7 can be. If the measuring device is coupled with a writing instrument, a diagram is obtained from which the mean current value can be determined.

   Such a measurement can be carried out at several time intervals on one and the same plant, it being possible to determine the progress in the growth of the plant at the individual time intervals from the difference in the mean current values of the individual measurements.

   The device described can also work in such a way that the light source and the selenium cell are fixed while the plant rotates between the two elements during its measurement.

    In the embodiment of the device according to FIG. 2, a ring of selenium cells 4 is provided around the plant 1, on each of which a light source 3 is attached, the rays of which are directed towards the image surface of the diametrically opposite selenium cell 4. For the sake of simplicity, the light sources 3 are shown only for two selenium cells 4 opposite one another. The device works in such a way that the light sources 3 light up and extinguish in rapid succession under the influence of a correspondingly designed switch, so that the plant is scanned from all sides, similar to the exemplary embodiment according to FIG.

   All selenium cells can be in a common circuit, or a separate circuit can be provided for each cell.

   A change in the function of the device according to FIG. 2 can be achieved with a cover screen according to FIG. 3, which is designed as a cylinder 8 arranged within the ring formed by the combined light sources 3 and selenium cells 4, the wall of which consists of an opaque material. In this cylinder two openings 9 and 10 are provided diametrically opposite one another, one of which is in the area of a light source 3 and the other in the area of the selenium cell 4 associated with the relevant light source 3. In the case of a device supplemented in this way, all light sources 3 can radiate, with one light source 3 coming into action with the opposite selenium cell 4 in succession by rotating the cylinder 8.

   If the plants are grown in a container filled with transparent or translucent nutrient fluid made of likewise translucent or translucent material, the vegetative part of the plant as well as its roots can be observed.

   For the sake of simplicity, only light sources have been described as the means of scanning the plant. However, it is within the scope of the invention to use the method with other waves emitting or similar. acting sources. So rays of any type and wavelength, z. B. radioactive rays or sound waves are used. However, it is only advisable to use agents which do not affect the growth of the plant. To support the method, filters can also be provided which, for example, absorb harmful parts of the waves or the like. Finally, instead of a selenium cell, any other image surface or measuring instrument can be used which, depending on the change in the rays, waves or the like, produces a measurable change in a state, e.g.

   B. causes the change in current flow. In this way, 6-rays can advantageously be used to measure the plant, a Geiger counter serving as the receiver.
