Process for the production of an easily soluble double salt from theobromine barium and sodium salicylate.
It has been found that the sparingly soluble barium salt of theobromine, which z. B. is obtained by adding a solution of theobromine sodium with that of a soluble barium salt, e.g. B. Chlorbarium, changes into an easily soluble double salt, when treated with two molecules of sodium salicylate to one molecule of theobromine. To obtain this new double salt one can either isolate the theobromine barium and dissolve it by treating it with sodium salicylate solution in a calculated amount or: nan can make the double salt formation in one operation by

Evaporation, preferably in a vacuum.
In the second case, the double salt is obtained as a mixture with the inorganic salt which is also formed from the reaction of the theobromine sodium and barium salt. This latter is, however, with a suitable choice dos Barinmsalzos, z. B. Chtorbarium, whereby cooking set is formed, for the use of the product without influence and can remain in this.
According to the results of animal experiments carried out on rabbits, as well as clinical observations on the bedside, the new preparation combines the diuretic effect of theobromine with the blood pressure-increasing effect of chlorobromine and thereby on the one hand achieves a considerable increase in diuresis, on the other hand it is suitable for use in all the cases in which, as in the case of renal oids, the use of chlorbarium in the absence of a diurotic does not seem appropriate because of its vasoconstricting effect.
From the compound of theobromine lithium and lithium salicylate described in Merks Index ", 2nd ed. (1902), p. 246, the barium compound that can be prepared according to the present process differs initially in the very different pharmacological mode of action of the two preparations Lithium compound is only a combination of two diuretic active substances (lithium, theobromine), the barium double salt produced according to the present process complements the diuretic effect of theobromine with the blood pressure-increasing, cardiac stimulating effect of the barium.
In addition, however, the procedures for obtaining the two double salxos are also essentially different; because the Lithiamverhindang is an addition of the

normal soda lye and 100 volumontoilo water. On the other hand, 16 parts by weight of sodium salicylate and 6 parts by weight of barium chloride were dissolved in 125 parts by volume of water. The two solutions are left to stand for some time for complete clarification.
