  Brake caliper for disc brakes
The invention relates to a brake caliper for disc brakes and its purpose is to facilitate the replacement of brake linings. The idea of the invention can be used both for fixed caliper brakes with hydraulic systems on both sides and for floating caliper brakes based on the so-called nutcracker principle.

The brake pads of a disc brake wear out relatively quickly. It is therefore crucial that they can be changed quickly and easily, especially without having to dismantle the hydraulic lines. Since the brake caliper has hitherto been designed as part of the brake cylinder carrier in the vast majority of cases, a number of known proposals aim at being able to remove or insert the brake linings and their retaining plates without having to change the position of the brake caliper.

The solution to this problem best known from practice consists in arranging an opening on the circumference of the brake caliper which is radial in relation to the brake disc, through which the brake linings with the retaining plate can be radially inserted or removed. The preferably segment-shaped retaining plate supports are supported radially and downwards from the boundaries on the brake caliper and are protected upwards against the ingress of dirt and water by means of an easily detachable cover plate.

Other known proposals deal with the tangential removal of the brake linings. For this purpose, the inner legs of the caliper are provided with horizontal guide grooves, for. B. in the dovetail profile. The tangential fastening of the brake plates is made by means of limiting pins and screws.

Both known solutions to the problem - the radial as well as the tangential replacement of the brake linings - have considerable disadvantages. With regard to a safe and easy mobility of the brake linings, radial replacement is quite suitable; however, it requires considerable technical effort and, above all, takes up a great deal of space, which is a major drawback, especially with the front wheels of an automobile. Finally, this solution raises cooling problems, since the extensive holding means restricts the access of the airstream to the brake linings and to the sensitive tread surfaces of the brake pistons on the holding plates.

When changing tangentially, the guides become soiled very easily, as road dirt, oil splashes and abrasion of the brake linings penetrate the guideways and jam the brake linings. This is all the more disadvantageous as you have to pull off the brake pads when changing them and cannot pierce them, because they are supported against a supporting edge in the forward direction in the direction of rotation of the brake disc when driving forward. With regard to the cooling, on the other hand, the tangential pulling off is very useful, since the guiding and holding means do not impair the airflow.

The aim of the invention is to design the brake caliper in such a way that it, together with the brake linings, can easily be detached from the brake cylinder carrier to the extent necessary in order to easily remove the brake linings and replace them. The way in which the brake pads are suspended in the brake caliper is of secondary interest. The invention is based on disc brakes

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

which the brake caliper and the brake cylinder carrier are designed as two separate parts, but are firmly connected to one another.

The object of the invention is achieved in that one leg of the brake caliper engages or depresses the brake cylinder carrier via a link guide in the tangential direction. retractable and easily detachable holding means, such as B. screws, can be fixed in the operating position, the inner surface of the leg forming a plane with the inner surface of the brake cylinder carrier. In this case, the brake caliper can have a tongue-like taper on its one leg, which protrudes into a corresponding groove in the brake cylinder carrier. Of course, the guide groove can just as well be formed on the brake cylinder support and the guide tongue on the leg. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the brake cylinder support has a taper on which the leg of the brake caliper rests.

The leg of the brake caliper has at least one recess on its front part facing the brake disc axis and in relation to the direction of rotation of the brake disc when driving forward, which engages around corresponding bolts attached to the brake cylinder carrier and provided with wide heads. This recess can run obliquely upwards from the inside outwards in relation to the brake disk axis. The actual attachment of the brake caliper to the brake cylinder carrier. ; by means of the screws takes place at one end, expediently at that end that points in the direction of rotation of the brake disc when reversing.

Details of the invention are explained with reference to the drawings, in which an embodiment of the invention is shown schematically. 1 shows a brake caliper according to the invention, mounted on a brake cylinder carrier, in a cross section, FIG. 2 shows the front part of the same brake caliper in a plan view, FIG. 3 shows a brake caliper and brake cylinder carrier in a preferred embodiment of the invention in a cross section and FIG. 4 shows a brake caliper and brake cylinder carrier according to FIG. 3 in a top view.

The brake caliper 1 engages around the brake disc 4 with its two legs 2,3. In the brake caliper 1, brake pads 5,6 with retaining plates 7,8 are suspended in a manner not described in detail. The hydraulic piston 9, which protrudes through a bore 10 in the leg 2, acts on the holding plate 8. The hydraulic cylinder is attached to part 11 of the brake cylinder support in a known manner that is not described. The lower edge of the leg 2 has a guide tongue 12. The part 11 of the brake cylinder support is provided with a bracket-like structure 13, in the upper edge of which a guide groove 14 has been cut out, which corresponds to the guide tongue 12 of the leg 2. The leg 2 is detachably connected to the brake cylinder carrier by the guide tongue 12 by means of screw bolts 15.

In Fig. 2 a front attachment is shown (front in the sense of the direction of rotation of the brake disk 4 when driving forward). In the guide tongue 12, a recess 15 a is formed which engages around a guide and limiting bolt 15. When the brake caliper 1 is placed on the brake cylinder carrier 11, 13, the guide tongue 12 is guided forward until the bottom of the recess 15a strikes the limiting bolt 15 ′. At the other rear end of the leg 2, the brake caliper is secured against tangential displacement or against radial tilting by means of a screw bolt 15.

3 and 4 show a simpler and more robust and therefore preferred embodiment of the inventive concept. For a better overview, the representation of the hydraulic pressure medium has been omitted. The leg 2 of the brake caliper 1 does not have a guide tongue, but is provided on its front part with two parallel recesses 19, 20, which encompass two permanently welded limiting bolts 16, 17 located on the bracket part 13a, 13b of the brake cylinder carrier. The fastening and securing of the brake caliper 1 takes place, as described above, by means of a screw bolt 15 on the rear part of the brake caliper. The brake caliper is axially secured by the wide bolt heads 16a, 17a. The screw head 18 is secured in a known manner, not shown, by a split pin or the like.

When braking from the forward movement, the brake pads 5, 6 and thus the brake caliper 1 experience a strong impulse which is directed forwards and upwards. The forward impulse is absorbed by the limiting bolts 16, 17. The upward impulse can be effectively countered in that the recesses 19, 20 run inclined upward (not shown).

If the brake linings are to be replaced, one only needs to loosen the screw 15 (see in particular FIG. 3). The brake caliper 1 can now either be swiveled up or - for the purpose of even easier handling - removed completely. It depends on the suspension of the brake linings 5, 6 whether one or the other method is to be preferred.
